How do you hang your stockings?

Other than "with care"?
This is our 1st Christmas with a fireplace and we wanted to hang our stockings from the mantle. But the stocking hangers you can get from Target, etc. are not strong enough to support a full stocking like I'm expecting. ;) DMIL thinks we should put hooks in the wood under the mantle but I don't want to drill in the new wood. Maybe we will just hang them on the halltree like we have every other year.

no fireplace........we always hang them on the moose antlers and before the moose .....we hung them on the deer antlers.....

We always hang them from the holders while they are empty (I stuff bags or tissue paper in them to puff them up) then when they are filled up Christmas Eve they go in front of the tree. So you get the nice Mantle look for decoration, but you can also fill them up good.

secure your holders with double face tape..

by the chimney with great care! <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/8/8_2_92.gif' border=0></a>

We do the same - they are hung on the fireplace mantle until Santa fills them up and places them outside their bedroom doors. When they wake, they can spend the next half hour going through their stockings and Mommy and Daddy get an extra half hour sleep!

we just put small nails in the top of the mantel. They are very small holes and can't be seen when they aren't in use...we remove the nails. Okay, actually its more like we just moved into this house this september and found tiny nail holes in the top of the mantel perfectly spaced, so we assume this is what the previous owners did. We found small nails and they fit perfectly. I won't do stocking hangers right now because my son (21 months) just might grab a stocking and I'd hate for the hanger, usually heavy, to come crashing down on him.

We screw the little hooks in the mantles. mtemm, you'll probably find that the little hooks work fine in the holes that are there. You really can't see them, because they are underneath the actual mantle.

Yep thats what we do too! :)

Pottery Barn Kids has a great set of stocking holders for 19.99. They are very heavy and I've had my eye on them this year. They have some really cute stockings for $19.99 too. I don't know if you have a store near you but if you do, it might be worth it to check them out. They are in the shape of snowmen.

We got our stocking hangers at Hallmark many years ago and they hold VERY full stockings just fine :)

That's what we used to do, too when the boys were younger. It does work on a few added minutes of sleep!!!:teeth:

We use heavy brass holders so we don't have to put nails in the mantle. The down side to that is that one year one of the kids wanted to get something out of her stocking and just pulled on it (she was about 4) and the brass holder fell on her head. The kids are older now, so they know to be careful, but I don't know if I would use these around toddlers.

Growing up, my parents used tiny nails in the mantel. The nails are still there and you can't see them at all. We don't have a fireplace in our house but we hang the stockings on the wall by the stairs. I use the 3M temporary hooks to hold the stockings. They do a great job. Not sure if you could use them on the mantel or not but the come off with no problem.

We have snowman holders. They are not heavy enough to hold a full stocking so Santa will probably lay it down by DD's Santa gifts. :)

DD did pull one of the socks and holders down. It scared her and she hasn't touched it since. :)

My stockings don't hang as much since I started using that garter belt....

Fortunately, both homes that we have lived in had nails existing in the mantle for just such a purpose.

We hung the empty stockings there during the season, but since they became heavy after Santa's visit, he would lay them on top of the gifts on Christmas Eve.

LOL alabamaalan! Now DH wants to know if I'm going to start wearing a garter belt!:earseek:

I like the idea of hanging them empty until Santa fills them then putting them outside our doors. When Sam gets older that might be a saving grace!

You took my answer away:teeth:

We hang them from our Mickey and Minnie stocking holders that are placed on our mantle over our chimney.

This is my first year with a chimney and I was going to go buy the stocking holder but my 6 year old daughter while I was sleeping got ornament hanger hooks and screwed them into the chimney so that is what we are using at the moment.
The things kids think of.
