How do you handle water play in parks?

My little princess will get soaked if we let her if there is water around, even jsut a little. What do you experienced parents do when little ones want to play in the water play areas at the parks?

In the hot August heat, will they just dry off quickly, so it isn't a problem?

Sounds like you might be in Disney the same time we are! My girls LOVE the water foutains and areas throughout the parks. We will be packing extra undies and slothes *just in case* the heat of August doesn't dry them fast enough.

Since Animal Kingdom and Epcot are the most tempting...my girls will be wearing there swimsuits under a sundress. :)

We pack a few extra outfits into the park each day. Little kids clothes take up so little space that it's worth it!
I just pack each one into a separate ziplock bag and then can use the same bag for wets when the water is too irresistible!

I have found that clothes dry quickly, but shoes do not. My daughter wears crocs, but my son prefers tennis shoes. I always have a pair of flip-flops inside a plastic sack for him. Then I can pull them out of the backpack when he is playing in the water and wrap them back up and put them in the backpack whem he is finished.

I may just be lucky but there was a trip when I just used swim trunks as shorts for my 2 DS's. We have a pool so the extra trunks still got used at home and they dry quicker than shorts. I carried a washcloth/face towel to dry feet a little so the sandals didn't rub. Doesn't seem quite as easy with girls.

I bring a bathing suit/towel and swim shoes for my DD into the parks (I don't have to bring swim diapers this time! Yeah!) I pack them in ziploc baggies, then put them back when she is done, and take out to dry when we get back to the room. That is also my DDs favorite - especially Epcot! Is there anywhere in AK to get wet (besides the raft ride? My DD is only 2!) (I can't think of a place, so I want to make sure I'm not missing one)! Oh, and don't forget DTD - good fountains there too!

I remember being at Pooh's Playground unprepared with my 3 and 5 year olds. We just let them get soaked and have a ball..because OF COURSE Disney *conveniently* has a little store just across the way where we bought a giant t shirt and character hoodie towel for each child..we bought undies in there and that covered it.

In the future? We'll bring changes of clothing with us...possibly even a bathing suit.

Many people are saying they bring a change of clothes, so are there places to change the kids near these water play areas?

Has anyone every used a swimmers towel or Sammy Towel? Will these try them off enough for the August heat to do the rest, or do you still need a change of clothes?

KIDS WILL FIND WATER WHEREEVER YOU ARE-so I always have swimsuits under their clothes-you can just take off their clothes and let them run in the water. Disney is all about convience for the families-every water area we have been to always has a bathroom nearby. or a stand that you can conviently buy a new shirt-towel-etc... I bring a change of clothes (even if water play isn't planned-just in case). my kids are the messiest eaters-they get it from their father.

I don't worry about it. They dry off pretty quickly and we're on vacation:). The only time I would stop them is if we are heading to a restaurant right afterward.

This was at AK, not sure exactly where tho.

There are always changerooms nearby. In the above photo, I had gone off for a few minutes and left DH with the kids. Come back and they are soaked, and he is standing there with the backpack that holds the bathing suits. He's like What?? :confused3 The did dry eventually, but I usually prefer to have them change first.

I leave them in their clothes. I have done it both ways and the clothes is so much quicker. First of all - in summer heat I do not like a suit under their clothes - too many layers and too hot when not in water. By just letting them get their clothes wet - first of all - it keeps them cool longer. I USUALLY don't even change them into other clothes but bring along shorts/undies/tshirt just in case. The only time I've needed this is when it got cool in the evening in the early spring and they were COLD after Ariel's Grotto. In August when we go next - I will simply let them air dry and they will be wonderously cool for a 1/2 hour to an hour after they get out of the water. I used to bring water shoes but now let them just get into bare feet if they're going to be in water.

Changing twice (into swimsuit, then out of afterward) is TOO time consuming and also the bathrooms, although clean, are not the greatest for changing clothing. I prefer to only do it when absolutely needed.

I pack a change of clothes for our youngest and undies for the other two children, just in case they get very wet. I pack Crocs for the kids - great if they get wet or not.

Also, for the rides like Kali Rapids, I do pack ponchos and the kids have the opportunity to use them if they wish (and they never choose the poncho).:thumbsup2
