We're leaving Saturday and I'm trying to actually pack BEFORE it's time to go :rotfl2: There are 4 females on this trip , 3 between the ages of 14 and 21 that insist on bringing jewlry. We are only bringing carry-ons this trip. How do you pack jewelry (specifically, lots of necklaces) without them getting tangled ? TIA

I have never done it, but I have seen (I think on the travel channel) that if you slide the necklace thru a straw and then clasps it outside the straw, they stay untangled.

Hope that helps!!

use a t-shirt, and roll them into one. lay a necklace down long ways, then fold material over...lay the next necklace, roll over...sort of like making a "jelly roll"...the material will separate them, and also protect them...you can even rubber band the ends of the shirt, and the center to keep it from opening while traveling

You may want to remind them that the necklaces could get broken and lost. Once they remember that, they may not want to bring their favorites.

I lost one of my all time favorite necklaces at Disney when it broke and didn't notice it until hours later. It never turned up in lost and found. Since then, I've never brought any more necklaces to wear.

You can always use those snack size ziplock bags for their necklaces. If you have time, run over to Michael's Craft Store. In their jewelry making aisle there are smaller ziplock bags for just this occasion. They come in various sizes but look for some that are at least 3" wide. I like 3x4" and put one necklace in and then I can put several of those smaller bags in a larger sandwich or 1 quart size.

Hope you have fun.

I agree with putting them in little baggies, or a crafting box is useful with individual compartments. The kind people use for bead crafts.

I would tell them that it is going to be hot and sticky there and uncomfortable to wear necklaces.I know I dotn like wearing jewlery when its hot and sticky. If they do still want to wear them than they should not complain about it

I second straws! Put them in a reusable water bottle- you can use it during your trip and wash it and repack them in it.

I would discourage the jewelry altogether. Necklaces can easily get caught on straps & harnesses and break. By the time you noticed the necklace was gone, it would be lost forever.

Tell the "girls" to only bring jewelry that they can afford to lose. If you can't convince them, then the snack bag and/ or straws are good solutions.

I agree that it is too hot to wear necklaces & also that they get it the way but if they just HAVE to have them I would suggest tissue paper like you use for gift wrapping. Put one in each sheet and then roll them all together. Kinda like the t-shirt suggestion only with a lighter material that has a little bit of stiffness to help keep them from kinking up. I would then place all of them in a plastic pencil box or similar small, hard container.

I wa going to suggest a paper towel insert. You could use it the same way as the straw but get more on the larger tube. Then you could roll it in the shirt as someone else suggested.

Forgot to add, if you use the straws the bendy ones work best- some necklaces are shorter than the straw and you can bend it to close the necklace.
