well, that's my question, how do you go there?, do you rent a car, use a town car? or are there others ways to go?

how much it would cost?

which is the cheapest one?

thank you

We load our car onto the Amtrak autotrain from VA to FL and get off near Orlando. Train leaves at 4pm. We sample wine for a while. Eat dinner (I mean prime rib dinner) at 5 or 6pm. Take in a movie at 8pm Go to sleep at 10 pm. Get up at 6 or 7 am. Get something to eat and arrive at 8am. We pack into the car virtually everything we need for the trip and don't have the security holdups you find with flying. We love it.

WOW, that is freaking awesome!! I didn't have any idea that something like that was even possible. How much does that cost, if you don't mind saying? Of course I live in KY so that is not an option for us. A few years ago Amtrak was considering putting a line through KY to Fla but it didn't pan out.

The auto train isn't cheap.

We fly either into Orlando or West Palm Beach. They are about the same distance to Vero. You really need a rental at Vero.

That's a complex answer :)

Season really makes a difference. The train is packed with "snowbirds" (retired folks commuting between summer & winter homes) going down in the fall and going north in the spring. The cost for DW, me, and our car can vary from $400 to $800 round trip for a mini sleeper compartment. Which is certainly high compared to airfare, But you actually have privacy and a bed to sleep on. We haven't done this for 2 years so prices are likely higher.

Also... we don't have to rent a car for the week, or buy gas for and drive extra 2800 miles (round trip). Dinner, breakfast, and a movie is included. For Vero Beach trips we pack our own umbrella, chairs and boogy board which would cost about $150+ to rent for a week. We purchase our non perishables groceries locally and pack them (cheaper). Some people who might break up the trip by staying in a hotel over night would save that expense too. There is no hassle or wait to go through security and our luggage and everything just stays in our car. We just bring on a nightbag with a change of clothes.

You can't make the savings and cost wash, but it comes close enough that it is worth it to not have to drive an extra 12 hours and put so many extra miles on our car. From the sightseeing car you can watch sunset and sunrise. It is very interesting sightseeing too (during daylight). They even have showers on each car. Bottom line for us is we show up in Florida refreshed and really ready to go rather than burned out and ready to crash.

We love it... :beach:
