How do you get to your DVC resort

Based on another thread, I became curious how most people actually get to their DVC resort.

We always drive, for several reasons:

1. Time is not an issue
2. We usually stay for extended stays (So rental cars would cost a lot more.
3. We like to tack on a HH or VB stay, or even a DCL stay at one end of the WDW stay.
4. Flying is not exactly cheap. We can take a lot more trips by driving.

So how do you usually travel to your DVC resort.

For us, the duration of our vacation is ALWAYS an issue........... so we fly down to Orlando in 3 HRS and rent a car.

I live in Phoenix, AZ so I always fly. I used to stay off site and always rented a car. I rented a car the first time that I stayed on site and never once got in it while I was there. Since then (8 years ago) I usually go 2 or 3 times a year and haven't rented a car in those 8 years.

We flew once and don't plan on doing so again.

We actually enjoy the 18 hour drive to Orlando. With the advent of personal CD players, Game Boys, combo TV/VCR's and other diversions, we don't seem to have the endless fighting like I used to have with my brother (when we were kids, that is ).

We almost always use the WDW transportation system, but it's nice to have the car for off-site. We go to Sea World and Busch Gardens every trip as well since they are such great parks.

I votd for usually fly and get a rental car..but we drove for the first time last June, and that's the way I see our trips for the next 3 or 4 years. We have a daughter who just turned 2 and a 3 month old son and doing the stroller/carseat thing through airport security and on the plane was bad enough with 1 child before 9/11, the 18 hour drive is actually much less stressful for us at this point.

We did a DVC vacation for the first time this year. We flew down and rented a car. We are newly weds(01-01-01). We will most likely fly because of limited vacation time. We will probably not rent a car for the whole time. We may may rent one for a day or 2 if we decide to do Universal or Seaworld or maybe go to Busch gardens.

I did several trips alone and have driven and flown. The driving made sense when I visited my sons while enroute to and from WDW. When not visiting them flying and used mears to and from the airport.

I would think if time and money was not always an issue we may drive down. Not likely anytime soon.

I needed: Every other trip fly,always rent a car.

With two boys in college we rack up free flights almost every year by charging everything to our Travel Visa. We get VIP rate at Enterprise Car Rental.Last trip,two weeks in a Neon plus all the airport and state tax only came to $250.00.

But I also enjoy the drive down at least once a year. We leave about 6:00 pm on a Friday, drive thru the nite. Once we get below Richmond Va. it's clear sailing. That's the trip we do most of our shopping as we don't have to try and get everything onto the plane.

The last two times that we have gone we (DW and I) drove. We like the freedom of having the car if we want to go to another resort for dinner or loading up the car with purchases from Downtown Disney.

Next year when we go for our first stay at VWL we intend on driving again. But this time we will have our DD (who will be 16 months old) so we will probably have to stay at a hotel a little over half the way there.

We always have flown down, and have always rented a car. For the few dollars extra over the town car price it is worth it to have the availibility of a car if we ever needed it. We are thinking of doing a drive down sometime in the future if we have some extra time, but still are content with the flying.

Wasn't sure how to vote as so far we have been planning to drive, but for a short trip, as long as we live in PA, it would be nice to fly. So I went with usually drive though that may turn into always drive!

Living in Houston, TX we can get a direct flight to Orlando on Southwest or Continental for next to nothing (around $200). Compare that to gas for my Explorer at 14 MPG and add in at least one hotel night for the trip up and one for the trip back and I can't afford not to fly.

Of course that equation only works when you are talking about two adults with no kids. Add in 2 or more kids and the plane starts getting pricey...

As far as renting a car when we get there, we find it to be close to the same cost as transfers (company rate $16 per day for 5 days) and easier than using the WDW bus system...

Plus, we're from Houston, we don't know how to function without a vehicle at our disposal!

We have both flown and driven to Orlando. Last summer we drove to HH and plan to again next summer. Although flying was quick and easy, I'm not a big flyer so we'll probably drive next time we visit Orlando. I also like to idea of having our own van rather than a rental. Our kids have their own car seats and we won't have to take them with on the plane. The time we flew I spilled an entire cup of coffee in the rental van and we thought for sure we were going to have to pay an extra fee to have it cleaned (they never notified us). Of course, we cleaned it up as best as we could, but coffee isn't easy to get out. I'd rather make a mess of our own (given a choice, I guess).

We've always flown to Orlando, but driven to HH. We're trying to decide how to get to OKW in February---at first we were driving, but that may shift due to work commitments. On flying, I vowed I'd never drive to Orlando (I'm guessing 12 hours from Richmond), but the airport is an hour from our house, we always have to change planes in Atlanta or Charlotte, lug a carseat through that 2nd airport, then wait to get the rental car. I think that's about 7 hours worth of time, so we're seriously considering driving.

Always fly - flights are relatively cheap & any drive over 7-8 hours in unbearable.
Never rent a car - haven't had the need to, no problems with WDW transportation.

We always drive. That said, DW and DSD were able to go while I was at a conference in Tampa and we did fly down that trip and rent a car to go from place to place.
