How do you get the Ring of Death on the Xbox???

Sending this question out to the teens here.

I got my 11 year old son a XBox 360 this past Christmas. I've seen and heard of Ring of Death?

But how does that happen?

My xbox is still going strong after a year and a half.

I have heard that the red ring is often caused by overheating, however newer versions of the console have special chips in them to prevent overheating therefore yours should be safe. However I would still recommend keeping it in a well ventilated are and not played for more than a few hours at a time.
