I ordered six of these for a recent vacation to Maine and Boston (three each). Had terrible luck using them. In Maine, one restaurant had gone out of business and another was seasonal, so not open while we were there. The third was delicious and a local favorite. No problem at all in using the certificate.
In Boston, two had changed hours (never did figure out when one was open) and the third refused to accept the certificate. The one we did use in Boston was reluctant to serve us as we had children with us. They no longer served lunch and when we went in at 7:30P, went out of their way to point out that they were a bar. (For the record, pubs in Boston often have the best and cheapest food and most cheerfully serve children in normal dinner hours.) There were very few people in there, so we ate and the food and service was quite good, but it was a bit unsettling to obviously be unwelcome.
I wound up calling restaurant.com three times with complaints and they did make good plus on all the cost, but it still threw our food budget off. The only other time we used them was for two restaurants in Orlando. One turned out to be in an iffy part of town, but quite tasty, and I haven't had a chance to use the other one yet.
I spent two or three hours researching restaurants and menus before I bought, so I was disappointed (and my family was peeved) to have so much trouble. I just bought the certificates about two weeks prior to leaving town, so it was odd that so much had changed. Apparently they have a hard time keeping info up-to-date.
