I did a search for this, but even though I found a thread that talked about it, I was still unclear on how to go about doing it.

Do I just approach any taxi parked outside JWA
and ask for the flat rate to the DL resort area?

Or do only certain cab companies offer the flat rate?

I saw on one thread that the flat rate can only be applied
on the way from the airport, not back to it; why is that?

Thanks for any help with this!!:goodvibes

I found the cab rates changed when traveling from Long Beach Airport to DL and back, but not the trips to the Orange County Airport.

Really? :cheer2:

And have you tried asking for the flat rate in either direction, Vanvmom?

The rate we got last Jan 2006 was $35 each way. Gas prices have gone up, so likely the rate increased some since then. We're planning on taking a cab from SNA to DL in Nov. when we go to DL. This past March we went to DL for a martial arts competition, and that time the airfare was cheaper to fly into Long Beach Airport. From Long Beach it was $35 to DL, but the reverse was almost $60. The way I understood it, the taxis from Long Beach are under some sort of contract to provide a flat rate from the airport, but the taxis that return you to the Long Beach airport are not under that same contract. What a shock that was!

I'd be interested to hear if things have changed from SNA since the last time I used a taxi there. It is only a short 20 minute drive from the airport to DL, so I can't think the rate would be very high. I live twice that distance from our local airport, and the taxi rate is close to $55 for a trip to the airport.

I am curious as to the answer as well.

We are going in October; I am completely willing to do a cab if it's just $10 or so more than what we would pay for super shuttle ($20 each way + tax/tip).

Thanks for any info~~

I will let you know. I had originally planned to do the DL Express Bus, at least TO DL, but since the Hojo (where I'm staying) is the last stop, I don't think I could stand the frustration of being so close to DL, but not being able to get out and go!LOL

Um...my thread got a little sidetracked, and I know I even helped it get sidetracked...:rolleyes1

BUT...

Does somebody have the answer to this question:

Do I just approach any taxi outside the John Wayne airport and ask them for the flat rate from the airport to DL?

Or am I supposed to call in advance, or something like that?

I just booked online with Super Shuttle and it only cost me $10 each way to and from the airport!!!

Yes, this is EXACTLY how you should do it. There is an area of taxi's waiting outside the airport. You walk right up to the man at a little stand who arranges for the taxi's and ask them for the flat rate to the DLR area. He will tell you what the current rate is.

As mentioned before, you will probably have a hard time getting this same rate back from the hotel. It might be helpful to ask the taxi driver on the way there if you can arrange the same rate back to the airport with his particular cab company.
