I have been reviewing and reviewing the transporation boards, and no matter what codes I put in, emerald club member, etc. I cannot get any rates for less than about $250.00 per week for a miniman or luxury, etc from National or any other rental car company.
Could someone who has successfully gotten less that $200.00 for a weekly rental PLEASE show us novices how to get this great rental rate?
My dates are MCO 7-28-06 through 8-04-06.
DISer's always come through! Thanks as always.

It's not a matter of getting the codes to work, but when you book it. The prices really go up and down a lot so I like to start at least 6 mos. ahead if possible, book the best deal I can find, then keep rechecking to see if I can beat my original booking. If I find a better deal, I book it then cancel my first one. I keep doing that until it's time to leave. Sometimes last minute deals are the best but keep in mind summer is peak season so maybe that's the best you'll get but keep trying. :surfweb:

Do you mind going offsite??? If not I just plugged your dates into Thrifty Car Rental and got a mid-size car for $217.76/total without any codes. I also tried Hotwire and got a price of $234.85/total for a full-size vehicle. I don't know what company that price is with, but it is an MCO offer. Also, since your trip is within a month you can always try priceline to see if you can make an offer that gets picked up. Just beware that with Priceline if your bid is accepted you cannot cancel it and you must pay for it up front. I've never used Hotwire, but I believe once you accept the price they offer it is also non-refundable and you must pay up front.

Just keep checking back - Alamo will probably have their Hot Deals for your travel dates in a few weeks. Their current promotion is through 7/11/06...but even those deals don't beat Thrifty...

Good luck!

Sorry to post again, but I just found a code for Thrifty that can get you an SUV for $229.45/total for your dates. The code is: LCSF.

Code 6COM will get you a minivan for $264.54 at Thrifty...

Okay - I'll stop now! Finding good rates has become a game to me! My travel dates are in Oct so rates are still outrageous AND the new codes for my dates aren't available yet...So I don't get to play with my own rates yet...

Thanks! you are awesome, I don't know why I did not find this before!
I booked it and will keep watching. Thanks much!

My other suggestion is to sign up with the rental companies you are interested in...that way you get their emails and know when the deals are in your travel time. Since you are going in less than a month though it may still benefit you to try the companies every day.

Im up way too late with too much time on my hands...I just played around with your dates again through Alamo (on site at the airport) and got a rate of $228.11/total for a full-size car (Pontiac Grand Prix) using the Walmart code (430710) and $15 coupon (D42C). With the walmart code you get an additional driver for free! So if you don't want to worry about shuttles to an offsite rental company (like Thrifty) you can always book the Alamo rate and cancel it later.

Okay - I'll stop now! :)

hope im not thread jacking :) I notice most of you are traveling in October also. Have any of you found good rates yet? I was up till 2am crying over our budget yesterday because i only budgeted 225.00 a week for an SUV..now if i had to go over by 25.00 or so big deal, but i was getting rates at nearly 500.00 a week!!!! craziness! That was using amex code. I'm so confused!

The best prices I am seeing right now are through Thrifty. They are located off site though, so you would need to take a shuttle from the airport to their lot... I currently have an SUV ressie with them for $357.07/total for 10/16-10/26. I just made that ressie last week and used the Walmart code (WMRT) to get an extra 10% off. Otherwise I plan to keep check the other companies to see if something better comes along. I also try priceline every 3 days to see if they will give me a low rate...but so far nothing...

Best of luck! Let us know if you find something better!
