How do you get only new posts to show up

Is it possible to change user settings or something so that when you go to a board you don't see items with "no new posts"? It is clumsy to have the first several items listed that you've already seen. Seems like when you go to a board, you should be able to view posts by whichever is newest to whichever is oldest and not be bogged down by stuff you've already seen.
