How do you get a live person on chat?

Every time i try to chat, I answer some questions from the robot and it tells me I need to call. For example, I say I have a question about my reservation or a question about my membership. It tells me to call. I see people posting here about chatting to have their questions answered, name changed on a reservation or to put in room requests.

What is the trick to getting a live person?
 
It depends on if a member services person is available to talk to you or not. I've gone though longer streaks with no luck getting the chat option and other times when it comes up. You can do the same things that you can do via chat on a call to MS. Good luck :)
 

It just depends on staffing. All you can do is try when it pops up and see if they have someone available
 
As far as making room requests, I find it easier to Email MS. I did that Friday eve, got the auto confirmation that they'd received it within a few minutes, and the next morning I got the confirmation it had been done. And this is HHI, which we're usually lucky and they grant our requests.
 
Another thing to check is that you're still logged in to the site. I've found that if my log in has timed out it will advise me to call. Click on an area only accessible by members just before selecting the chat option to make sure.
 
I have never had any luck when trying to chat from my phone but I have 100% success getting a live person on chat when I use a desktop.

I was going to update to say this made all the difference! I have always tried from my phone browser. Never got anyone on chat.

This past week, I tried 3 days in a row on my laptop, and I got a live person every day!

I had a 7 night stay booked with Beach Club points at 11 months. At the 7 month mark I wanted to add 3 nights with Polynesian points that I had transferred in. To be safe i wanted to add each additional night as soon as I could but the transferred points were not showing up online. So I either had to call or chat 3 days in a row to add the nights.

Happy to report I was able to get a live person on chat each morning at 9:00 am, and now I have 10 nights at the Beach Club next year!
