How does one become a DIS celebrity? :love: You know, the ones with threads that are all about them & what they are up to. How do they get followers? How do they keep people glued after the trip or wedding is over or the baby arrives? popcorn::

Do you have to be interesting? Does it have to be catchy?
Can I just start a thread about the boring stuff I do everyday? Would you follow me & read it? :goodvibes Is it that people are that bored that they will read anything?

And how is such a thread different than a blog? If you have a blog, I thought you get money per hits, right?

I've got thoughts. Anyone interested in reading them? :goodvibes

Subscribing! Tell me all about your day! And it better be good or I'm unsubscribing. And change your title, or i will lose interest after a day or two.

Ohhh! I'm very interested in hearing more of your thoughts. ;)

I'm also intrigued, because I've seen other threads on the CB shut down and mods suggest they start up a blog. Yet there are other posters who have blog threads (some that are over 100 pages long :rolleyes:) and everyone is, for some reason, SO interested in their lives.

Sorry, while I am sure you are entertaining, regardless of who you are, you aren't that important. :laughing:

Take it to a blog.

I've wondered about that too. But since I don't really want to blog about my life on the CB, I never asked about it.

Yeah, me either. My blog would be boring:

Today I went to work.
I left work to go to class.
I left class and went back to work.
I went home to find out my cat peed on the floor.
I yelled at DF for not cleaning it up.
I cleaned it up and then went to bed.

:laughing:

:rotfl: Ha ha - I've wondered the same thing myself. I think those threads are a big yawn - especially the pregnancy ones. Join the TTC or New Mom's thread and save space for the threads that the rest of us are interested in.

I only read one blog that a DIS'er does. It's about running/life and I find it interesting because a) it motivates me b) she includes lots of details, it flows well, and she puts in lots of pictures c)her stories are funny and/or entertaining to read and easy to relate to (like trying to find the time to run and dealing with the heat/humidity). I think if you're a good storyteller you could be a good blogger. There's quite a few TR's on here I start to read and then stop because it's choppy or not entertaining/funny.

I think bloggers only get paid if they have advertisers on their sites.

:lmao: I assume this is tongue in cheek!

I understand the "celebrities" (look at ME, it's all about ME) , what I don't understand are the followers and the fans. I'm aMAzed at the idolatry!! :scared:

Darn!!!! You better unsubscribe then.

Guess I'll never be a DIS celebrity with a blog thread of my own. :sad1:
;)

I think that there are several elements necessary to create and sustain a "look at me" blog/thread:

A. You must believe, in your heart, that you are an interesting person. That is not to say that you must be interesting, but only that you believe it. Your excitement for how interesting you think you are will leap off the page and lead others to believe that you really are interesting;
B. You must be willing to share details of your life, such as pictures, real names and embarassing situations that most are wise enough not to share. Readers will delight in the fact that someone is brave/silly enough to share such personal information;
C. In conjunction with element B, you must share enough intimate and personal details so that readers feel that they know you and have a vested interest in the outcome of your wedding/childbirth/hemorrhoid treatment. No detail is too personal and if necessary you must sacrifice the privacy of your spouse/child/family/friends;
D. It helps to infer that you are popular and have a large following. Unsuspecting readers will assume that you are popular and thus in an effort to be involved with the popular crowd will follow daily and post often;
E. You may wish to create alter egos and post under the false names in order to create more excitement. For example "I'm subbing!!!!! You had the best wedding ever - it was perfect!!! Your son is the cutest baby I have ever seen and the fact that he fingerpaints with the contents of his diaper at 6 months is surely an indication that he is gifted!!!!" (Multiple exclamation points help the cause.)

By following these simple rules you too can be an internet star and readers will be hooked on the otherwise uninteresting details of your life such as buying shoes, feeding your child and applying anti-itch cream.

I'm rethinking my decision. Maybe I should start a Dis blog. I think I want a lot of people hanging on my every word and pumping up my literary ego. If my life is boring I can just make junk up. They won't know the difference. Instead of saying I went to work, I could say I am a secret agent fighting global terrorism against jersy cows. You'd read that right?

That's it exactly, I can see someone posting about themselves but then it's like posters are falling over themselves to worship what they write.

My dogs have a blog, I'm not exciting enough for my own. However, I'd never think to start a DIS thread on it. I'm not that self-indulgent. :rotfl2:

ETA: You usually have to have advertising to make money from a blog, but the dogs have received a ton of items to review. Their peeps are interested in their opinion. :laughing:

Great idea. My kitties could have a DIS blog. I'm sure people would read that before anything I wrote. :rotfl:

I'm a lonely military wife craving attention lately. Its only going to get worse. Deal. :rotfl2:
