I need some help.

My father in law always brings the sweet potatos for the Thanksgiving Dinner. He is going out of town this year so I have to attempt to make them. I have never made sweet potatos before. He doesn't mash them or anthing.

Anyone have any good recipees or idea for me? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks a bunch
Beth

I particularly enjoy the Casserole with Pecans and Bourbon.....mmmmmmmmmm, delicious.

I usually cut them up and cook them with a little water, brown sugar, & butter. Just becareful they don't boil too hard and burn or turn the syrup hard.

Candied sweet potatoes!!!

I boil them first and once they are cooked I peel them, slice them, and layer them in a 13X9 pan. Load 'em up with butter and brown sugar and bake until bubbly.
Then.........marshmallows all over the top and broil until brown.

They are incredibly sticky and sweet.
You either love 'em or hate 'em.

I just bake the sweet potatoes and it brings out the sugars in the sweet potato. I just add a little bit of butter and it is really good (and easy!)

I second SillyOldBear66's recipe. It is sooooo yummy!! Haven't met anyone who hasn't liked the sweet potatos made this way yet!!

Thanks so much everyone. I really appreciate the help.

I've got another question.

I've decided to cut them into chunks and then bake them in the over. Do you melt the butter first and then mix in the brown sugar and then pour it over the sweet potatos. Or do you just sort of throw the stuff in the pan and it sort of all melts together. I guess I am really being a dunce head about this one.

Thanks again
Beth

Beth...I can't answer your question....but I found an idea I'd like to try sometime and wanted to share it...Twice Baked Sweet Potatoes. The concept is the same as regular potatoes, but you mix them with butter and sugar, maybe some cinnamon, then sprinkle them with marshmellows and bake them until brown.

We also eat them the way Tabitha wrote about. They are more like a dessert to me than a potato!!
