How do you fix a sticky microwave door latch?

If it weren't related to food, we'd put WD-40 on it. But with it being a microwave, we're not sure what to do with it.

The latch on my mom's microwave door is sticking so that it's hard to open the door now. Just cleaning it isn't sufficient. Any suggestions of what we can use to loosen that up?
