My family is going down to Disney the first week of August! We are on the dining plan so we are eating dinner out every night. However, this is our first year on the dining plan so many of these places we have never eaten before. I made the ADRs today, so tell me your opinions on each restaurant and if you think I should change any!

Chef Mickey's
Crystal Palace
Hollywood & Vine (Fantasmic Package)
Shutter's at Port Royale
Coral Reef
Planet Hollywood in DTD

The agent I spoke with told me that ADRs at DTD restaurants are not needed...is this true? Also, we need one more table service restaurant (preferably in DTD). Suggestions?

Thanks!! :cool1:

Chef Mickey's I haven't been there in about 11 years, but I liked it last time we were there. We'll be trying it again in June.

Crystal Palace We went in July '09 and we all loved it.

Hollywood & Vine (Fantasmic Package) It wouldn't be my first choice, but you obviously want the Fantasmic Package so, if you can't get Mama Melrose, then I'd take this one just for Fantasmic

Shutter's at Port Royale Never been

Coral Reef Trying it for the first time in June. Can't wait!

Planet Hollywood in DTD It doesn't get the greatest reviews, but we're trying it in June just for the atmosphere. My teenage girls will probably like it.

Totally not true. While you *might* be able to get a walk-up, I wouldn't count on it.

Also, we need one more table service restaurant (preferably in DTD). Suggestions?
Will you be at Epcot? How about Biergarten or Akershus? If you want DTD, Raglan Road looks interesting.

Chef Mickey's is great if you have to see the Fab 5. The food isn't exactly gourmet and it's a little loud...but it's still fun.

We love Coral Reef, although I've heard some conflicting reviews since we ate there last. We're going again in August. :)

Haven't been to any of the others, but we recommend Raglan Road in DTD. Their It's Not Bleedin' Chowder and bread pudding are worth the trip! I would make ADR's though. They have a band starting at 7 most nights (not Sundays).

Have a great trip! :goodvibes

I can only give advice on Planet Hollywood...it was alright when we went 3 years ago. Would try it again but definately not our favorite.
We are trying Crystal Palace for the first time next month..can't wait!!

I would make reservations anyway because you just never know. Its always best to have them. It also depends on when you're going too. For another TS at DTD, I would say Cap'n Jacks. Been there twice in the past few years and really liked it both times.

Chef Mickey's....so much fun, food is just okay
Crystal Palace, again fun times, food is much better than Chef Mickey's
Hollywood & Vine (Fantasmic Package), hmm iffy
Shutter's at Port Royale never been
Coral Reef: my fav place for steak
Planet Hollywood in DTD: if you like ribs, they are the best imo

Chef Mickey's - I haven't been here but I want the little Mickey Bon Bon's dessert SO bad! The buffet just looks like your basic food, but it looks good to me! There are a lot of mixed reviews about it, but I think it looks like a good spot!

Crystal Palace - I went here for dinner at 7 o'clock and let me tell you, it was HECTIC! I prefer this place much much more for breakfast. But I mean, the food was good.

Hollywood & Vine (Fantasmic Package) - I've never been here.

Shutter's at Port Royale - I have never been here and I've never seen a review on it.

Coral Reef - I've been here for lunch... but it was years ago. And I was in a bad mood so I can't give you much of a review :rotfl:

Planet Hollywood in DTD - I think there are better places to go... but I have never been here. So, I can't judge. But you know.

Your choices are decent, but there are so many more options out there. I've heard a ton of mixed reviews from all of them.

I would maybe recommend T-Rex in DTD, or Raglan Road. Those two get the highest reviews.

And I don't know... I would maybe suggest adding like.. Via Napoli in there. Or O'hana for Dinner. Actually, I highly suggest both of those. They are FANTASTIC and I promise you wouldn't be disappointed.

We've done them all.
Chef Mickeys - we do breakfast and love it. It is generally loud but it's Disney. Crystal Palace - we've done breakfast and dinner and it's fine. It's buffet so it is what it is.
H and V - we did it for the package and it was probably one of our least favorites but worth it for the package. Again, it's buffet and is what it is. Shutters - unless you are already at CBR and just hanging out, not worth yet. We use it as a last resort as we stay at CBR.
Coral Reef - we love it. The food is good, the fish tank is fun to watch.
Planet Hollywood - it's your typical chain. The food is ok if not reliable. Nothing fancy but good and the atmosphere is cool for kids.
Other places we love and if your on the dining plan are so much better than buffet - LeCellier in Epcot for lunch, Fultons in DTD, Mama Melrose in The Studios and even the buffet at the Grand Floridian (not the Cafe, the other one). In DTD there is also Rainforest Cafe which, like Planet Hollywood, is a chain and standard fare. I have never been but have heard ok reviews from friends about House of Blues.
Good luck. Any questions, just ask.

We love Crystal Palace and were not so crazy about our Planet Hollywood experience. The food was average and the service was slow.

Honestly, with the exception of Crystal Palace for breakfast only (Shutters we have not dined at) we would not choose to eat in any of those. There are much better choices available. The food at Chef Mickey's and H&V are just plain

I would look at menus on allears and reviews on here and make some other choices. If you are looking for character dining we always do breakfast as the food is more palatable than a buffet lunch or dinner.

Did Chef Mickey's for dinner a couple of years ago, characters great, food--just tolerable.

Did Crystal Palace for breakfast about 4 years ago--characters pretty good, and the food not bad at all.:earsboy:

Chef Mickey's - going for the characters, fine, but the food isn't the best
Crystal Palace - better, fun characters, still not our favorite but it is OK for a buffet
Hollywood & Vine (Fantasmic Package) - I didn't care for the dinner here at all.
Shutter's at Port Royale - never been to this one
Coral Reef - been here twice and had bad luck both times
Planet Hollywood in DTD - haven't been here for years, but i wouldn't go back, it's just not really our thing, probably fine if it is something you think you'd like. :)

If it were ME I would totally choose other restaurants, none of these are even near the top of my list for dinner, but if you think you would like them, then keep them. Everyone's tastes, needs, and opinions are different. :)

Chef Mickey's: Great! Not the best food, but really fun. I would go back.
Crystal Palace: Same as above only better food
H&V: Blehhh...not very good. I would highly recommend Mama Melrose's if it's possible.
Shutter's: Never been, but haven't heard much good.
Coral Reef: Amazing! Food and atmosphere are spectacular here. You will not be disappointed.
Planet Hollywood: Never been

Definitely make ADRs for DTD. I would suggest Raglan Road.

Chef Mickey's...yum and fun! We really enjoyed the food each of the times we have gone for dinner
Crystal Palace...we've done for lunch and dinner. Good food. Nice atmosphere.
H&V...one of the few places we will not return to. Food was bad and service was lackluster at best. We went for lunch.
Shutters...never been. Haven't read up on it much since we were never really interested.
Coral Reef...we tried twice and have marked it off our list. Both times we waited for at least 45 mins past our ADR time. Service was horrible. The atmosphere was great but the food was so blech that it just wasn't worth the dining credit and time.
Planet Hollywood...no thanks! Teenagers love it...all but mine!! It was so loud we couldn't hear each other. It's just no fun to have to yell or stare silently at your tablemates. The food was okay except my ribs. They were cold! Dessert was good though.

If you are looking for an extra table service meal, try Yak and Yeti at Animal Kingdom, or even Cape May at Beach Club. Those are both yummy imo.

Chef Mickey's Dinner was the same as most other buffets
Crystal Palace Breakfast was excellent, dinner was your typical buffet
Hollywood & Vine (Fantasmic Package) Most people hate this one. It was pretty good buffet food and we are doing it again for the package. If it wasn't for the package, I'd go Sci-Fi
Shutter's at Port Royale Never been
Coral Reef We were next to the tank which was fun but the food wasn't worth the price
Planet Hollywood in DTD Never been

Hope you get something good at DTD. We like the Earl of Sandwich.
