HOw do you feel about false rape accusations

I think its an awful, horrible thing to do.

However, I don't see these women (or men) being heavily prosecuted over it. If anyone makes the hoops to jump through to file charges against a (real) rapist fewer women would come out about being raped. Most rape victims DON'T report it as it is, if we make it any harder to report, I'm not sure any legitimate rapes would be reported which is a very very bad thing.

On the other hand, the fact that false accusations of rape are made and not punished makes it harder for true rape victims to be believed.

People can be thinking, "sure, it's easy to cry rape... but why should we trust your word over the guy's? Remember that woman who made up the whole thing and she wasn't even punished."

False accusation of a sexual crime by anyone over 18 should carry a much harsher penalty then it does. I think it should be a felony so it stays on their record permanently.

I agree with this completely. :thumbsup2 It is a terrible, terrible thing to do.

I think it should come down to DNA or it didn't happen.
Would save a lot of people a lot of grief.

If it can be proven that the victim actually lied and wasn't intimidated or withdrew due to being upset then the full weight of the courts should rain down on the liar. Too often claims are withdrawn because the victim can't stand the heat, those cases are different. But a full blown lie does as much damage to real victims as they do to the person they falsely accused and because of this, these cases should be pursued vigorously. These liars dilute the cause and cast doubt on everyone who tries to find a voice.

I totally despise liars like this, contempt isn't a strong enough word... there is no word strong enough.

The person that lied should get the same sentence that the person who they accused would have got if they were found guilty.

Oh, I just LOVE THEM.... :cloud9:

:confused3 Sorry, what other answer is there but to hate them? :confused3

This. There is no other answer.

False accusation of a sexual crime by anyone over 18 should carry a much harsher penalty then it does. I think it should be a felony so it stays on their record permanently.

Agreed.

The person that lied should get the same sentence that the person who they accused would have got if they were found guilty.

Agreed again.

I know of a case where a girl accused her coach of trying to rape her. Girl's best friend backed her up entirely. The young coach (in his early twenties) was summarily fired and charges filed.

The girl's best friend was on the stand testifying when she suddenly broke down into hysterics crying that she didn't want to go to Hell for lying. Turns out she and her friend had concocted the whole story because they were mad at the coach for flunking them. They thought that since they were on the team he coached he wouldn't flunk them in an academic class.

The young coach sued the school board and local sheriff's office; they all settled out of court and he's now involved in full-time recreational fishing and hunting. But imagine. . .if that girl hadn't broken down. . .makes you wonder how many men are falsely in jail right now.:scared1:

While that is truly a horrifying story, I worry more about how many guilty men are NOT in prison and are free to harm women and children again and again.

That's horrible!! And the worst part is that people will remember the "accusation" for far longer than they will remember that it was FALSE!!

I remember the incident that happened at Disney back in 2006. A female cast member said she was attacked and raped by a group of foreign cast members at their apartment complex. I remember the thread posted in here and many many were screaming for their heads or it seemed that way.
Turned out....she lied, she was an active participant. The thread just kinda died after that. Sort of like "oh it turned out she lied?, never mind then"
There wasnt that same rage over her trying to ruin these young men.

There have been enough convictions of women crying rape in revenge or because of pique that men who are accussed of rape will no longer be identified, of course some people are saying this will stop women coming forward to report rape but I don't see how it will.

But one of her friends , who was also in the night club the evening the pair met, told the court the woman danced and kissed Mr Fadayomi boasting: “I'm going to have his body tonight.”

The woman later told her friend she was planning to accuse Mr Fadayomi of rape and bragged: "He is not going to get away with it, I've got evidence this time."

I just don't understand these women she wanted to have sex with him just to accuse him of rape?

Speaking of, did anything ever happen to that stripper who falsely accused the Duke LAX players of rape?

It's local news here, so I've seen little bits on the news that she's been in and out of court/arrested for some other small stuff over the years. The house itself was just torn down within the last couple weeks.

I don't know what I hate more, the people who falsely accuse or the people who still treat the person badly once they are freed of their charges.
I hate the people who treat a person badly simply because he/she has been accused. Look at all the people here who are so quick to jump on the "CASTRATE HIM!!" bandwagon any time there's an accusation about sexual relations with a minor. Doesn't matter that the guy hasn't even been to court yet and there's no evidence of the crime; it seems that the simple act of accusing someone is enough and the witch-hunt is on.

I think it should come down to DNA or it didn't happen.
Would save a lot of people a lot of grief.
Agreed.

So, rapists using condoms should get a free pass?
There would be other evidentiary damage to the female besides semen.

The person that lied should get the same sentence that the person who they accused would have got if they were found guilty.
I agree.

It's the ugly side of the DIS. I try not to pay attention to it, but it's here just the same. The mob mentality is never pretty.

Can you say Ben Roethlisberger - he's got screwed (no pun intended) by false accusations.

I am not saying nothing happened in his case - but if you climb in the cage with a lion to pet it and get a picture with it and then it bites you don't complain.

I can't believe you got away clean with this comment. 1. He's as guilty as OJ and 2. your analogy is disgusting.

Well, I saw the thread title and thought "what a stupid question--of course everyone thinks it is vile to do so" and then I got to some of those early responses saying they could "almost" see it being okay to get back at friends or sort of understand teen girls doing it to get out of trouble. NOOOO it is NOT sort of kind of understandable some of the time--goodness this is the kind of attitude which probably leads to some women thinking they can do this. It is NEVER okay at all no matter how much you dislike someone or how much trouble you might be in for sleeping with them. I am stunned at the understanding of the girls/women who do this portrayed here.

What an evil woman. I can *almost* understand her deciding to "teach" her friends a lesson, but when other innocent people became involved, she should have put the breaks on it immediately.

I think it they admit to lying or if proven by the police, that they should be able to charge her with "something" and she should get some sort of jail time / community service and have to carry a criminal record around with her.

Too often, the guy gets all the bad press / opinions and even if the girl fesses up to lying about it the guys reputation is shot.

False accusation of a sexual crime by anyone over 18 should carry a much harsher penalty then it does. I think it should be a felony so it stays on their record permanently.

The person that lied should get the same sentence that the person who they accused would have got if they were found guilty.

I tend to agree with the above comments IN THEORY. In practice, I fear this would make it vastly less likely that an accuser would eventually recant and would actually result in more people being falsely jailed.

While that is truly a horrifying story, I worry more about how many guilty men are NOT in prison and are free to harm women and children again and again.

Hmmm. Hard call. However, I think erring on the side of not falsely accusing and convicting people is probably better and more in line with the values upon which our country was founded.

I think if it is proven that a woman falsely accused someone of rape, she should be punished.

A friend of my older brother's he dated a 16 year old girl when he was 19. She said that he forced her to have sex with him. Later on after his arrest she said everything was consensual but he ended up facing statutory rape chargers and was on probation and house arrest for a year. He is also on a sex offender's registry. In many states people that are convicted of statutory rape have to register as sex offenders even though they aren't the predator types. Last year on 20/20 they discussed a case in which man who was on a sex offender registry for a statutory rape crime was killed by vigilante who he thought he was dangerous person. I think the man either lived in Maine or New Hampshire.

I do think people who falsely accuse others of sex crimes should be punished more.
