How do you drink so much water??

I keep a plastic measuring cup next to my sink in the bathroom and in the kitchen. Every time I brush my teeth, I fill up to 8 oz and chug it down. Every time Im washing dishes or doing whatever at the sink, I fill up 8 oz and dont leave the sink till its gone. When Im watching the weather channel I fill it up and sip untill the local forcast comes on. (its like a sip a minute there if you time it right). Right there you have 32 oz if you brush your teeth twice a day, check the weather in the am and hang out at the sink (washing veggies, peeling potatoes, washing dishes, whatever) at least once a day.
Tap water goes down easier for me but I LIKE ice cold water with my meals. It also goes down easier if you drink it through a straw.
Good luck you really will feel better!

I am like you in that I am not a huge water drinker... while on vacation this summer, I only drank a quarter of a .5 L normal-sized water bottle over the duration of two days

But recently I have forced myself to drink more and my skin is far less dry... do you like seltzer? While I rarely drink any other carbonated drink (i.e. soda), I love seltzer... I recently tried the Poland Spring seltzer flavor raspberry-lime and drank about 1.5 L in one day-- a record for me!

Just an idea because it has solved the problem for me--and is no less healthy than water alone. Other obvious ideas are to keep water around and sip it even when not thirsty.. in addition, if you exercise, you will want to drink water while you do it.

Good luck! :drinking1

I have to have mine ice cold. I will take a half full bottle of water and freeze it. Then when I am ready to drink it, fill it the rest of the way up with water and it stays nice and cold. The amount of water I freeze depends on the temp of where we are going. If we are going to WDW, I will use half full ones. If I am going to the gym I will freeze about 1/4 and then keep filling it up at the fountain as I am working out.

I've always been a water drinker, and now I HAVE to due to kidney stones and being pregnant.

A tip I was given by my urologist was to fill a container of water up in the morning (64 oz) and keep it in the fridge. Keep drinking from it periodically throughout the day (keep a cup filled) and when it's gone, you know you drank enough. I also like Crystal Light- not so sweet like juice, but gives a little bit more flavor than a squeeze of lemon.

While I understand the logic that drinking more water would help with weight loss by causing you to feel fuller, why drink more of it if your body doesn't want it? Why not try to eat more cellulose based snacks, such as celery or iceberg lettuce, which contain lots of water but very few calories?

Reading through the rest of the posts, I thought I'd link to one of many articles that dispels the 8x8 myth, that is, you need to drink eight eight ounce glasses of water a day to be healthy. All the research says otherwise, and that too much water drinking can actually be UNHEALTHY. Basically, you should drink as much as your body asks for. In other words, if you're thirsty, drink something! :D

See the problem is, I don't always realize that I'm thirsty. I know I have to be, but I've "fought" myself so hard so long ago to keep from drinking things that it's hard to make myself drink things now. 9 times out of 10, I won't finish a glass of whatever I'm drinking when I'm eating.

I'm going to try some of these tips you guys have given me, and also try to add some lemon to the water...that may help me. Thanks. :)

Set a time and when the alarm rings, drink a few sips of water. Pretty soon it will be a habit.

I agree it takes a little while to become a habit. I never used to drink much water until I got pregnant with my first. I was ALWAYS thirsty and I would just drink water since it was the easiest thing to get. I have to have it cold also, except when I'm working out. We keep 2 pitchers of water in the fridge at all times. When one's gone we refill, but still have the other that's cold.
Okay, now I've made myself thirsty. Gotta go get some water!! :teeth:
