How do you dress for the holidays?

We typically wear church clothes on Christmas Eve since we go to Christmas Eve Candlelight service. For instance, this year I'll wear black slacks and a red twinset with red sequins on the neckline. DH will probably wear a shirt and tie with dress slacks. We are also going to a nice restaurant with DH's family after the service, so that's another reason we'll be dressed up.

On Christmas we dress very casually since we stay at home and open gifts. When I was younger I often wore my pajamas the whole day, but now that we visit DH's mom on Christmas I at least have to get dressed, LOL!

Normally its something a bit dressier for Christmas Eve, however plans have changed this year since my brother is having everyone over to his house. So casual Christmas Eve and Christmas morning, and dressing up for the evening. Nothing is ever too fancy though!

I usually wear nice jeans, or black slacks, and a holiday sweater.

DH wears jeans or khakis and a sweater.

Then, as soon as the door shuts on the last guest leaving, I make a mad dash to put my sweats and t-shirt on! :thumbsup2

We do black tie, both days. DH even bough a tuxedo jacket to wear with his kilt.

Just kidding - we are casual: jeans or khakis and sweaters or turtlenecks.

Our celebrations are spread out over several days and attire varies according to the date and family part:

Weekend before Christmas - With DH's family: Jeans and nice sweater or button down.

Dec 22 or 23 - With my dad's family: Khakis, sweater, button downs.

Christmas Day - With my mom's family: velours, velvets, dress slacks, ties, and fancy stuff.

Growing up in my family we dressed casual for Christmas Eve until it was time for evening Mass (then clothes appropriate for Church, of course!). Christmas Day we'd dress nice again to go to Grandma's house.

Now we are pretty relaxed for all events, the most we dress up is khaki's and nice shirts or something simular. Most wear jeans (nice ones, no holes!) and a good sweater or nice top. It's family, we don't need to impress each other!

Christmas Eve - nap pants and a t-shirt - do you think the Chinese take out guy will mind?

Christmas day - festive red jammies - no one will even notice throuh the wall of torn wrapping paper

I'll be wearing dress pants and a cashmere sweater for Christmas eve. I'm lectoring for midnight mass, so I need to be dressed up, and I am hosting 7 fishes that evening as well.

Christmas day is generally casual. I'm wearing black velour pants and a matching top. It's like pajamas

Christmas eve we were always kind of casual- dress pants or jeans with a nice top. Christmas day gorwing up usually wore some of our new clothes!! We were too excited to wait for them to be washed!

Christmas eve we go to MIL/FIL house. My kids wear their Christmas outfits- a pretty holiday dress for dd and slacks and sweater for ds. Dh and I dress a little nicer then jeans, but are usually far from dressed up. I might wear a dress this year, just beacuse I bought a new one a couple months ago and rarely have a chance to wear it.

Christmas day is very casual. Some years we've been known to eat Christmas dinner in our pj's.

Hahaha.. I'd like to get one of those for my son! And do they come in orange color? I think I want my daughter to wear one too! :rotfl: Heck do they have an adult size.. might get one of those too for myself! :rotfl:

I've never heard of rules on dressing for the holidays! We dress casual on both Christmas eve and day. Since we stay home I see no reason to dress up. DD, 7, does dress up though. She loves getting a new Christmas dress, shiny black shoes, and matching purse even if we are hanging at the house. I live in my Landsend cord athletic pants the whole time!

Chinese take out is our traditional Christmas eve dinner too!

Christmas Eve is usually casual, but since I come from the Xmas Eve service at church I am dressed up.

Christmas Day, both families we visit usually try to wear nicer clothes - at least the adults (church clothes). The kids are there to play so they usually are just in new casual clothes.

Since we take TONS of pictures on Christmas, I like being more dressed up.

Nothing special. Nice casual will do just fine, even for the services with the church band I play with. Outside of that, I'll probably wear shorts and a nice casual shirt.

Specifically, Christmas Eve I am wearing a red cashmere V-neck sweater and a black skirt with black boots (aren't you glad you asked?) We always spend Christmas Eve at my grandmother's with all my cousins I usually only see 1 time per year so I like to dress up a little.

Christmas Day will be jammies most of the day, until I host my dessert party in the evening. I'll probably put on jeans and a sweater for that, although I haven't actually selected the outfit I'll wear yet.

We dress up for Christmas Service at our church. Christmas Eve with immediate family is a bit nicer than jeans. Christmas Day with larger family is a little dressier, but more Holiday/Business Casual - no jeans. Dockers/sweaters for men. In my family growin up we were expected to dress up, so I am not really used to it being more casual on Christmas as my DH's family is. I am extremely comfortable in dressier clothes, so it is not a comfort issue. What better time to dress up and enjoy a holiday than Christmas? :thumbsup2

Christmas eve we go to church so of course that is dress clothes- Christmas day we are at my moms and then DH parents and again where dress clothes. My mother-inlaw wears sweat pants and sweatshirt father in-law jeans and flannel shirt. I must say it bothers me a great deal. I feel it is entirely inappropriate when you are serving a large Christmas dinner with guests.

jeans and tshirts for all both days! no dressing up on a holiday here!!
