How do you distribute your 65-70 points?

We currently have a contract pending through the timeshare store for 70 points. If we pass ROFR then I'm hoping to use our points for our early Feb vacation. I was thinking of staying Sat-Tuesday at ASMo (my little kids love it and the price is nice ;) and then Tue-Saturday at WLV studio (68 points). But I was just curious how others "spend" their points when they have a smaller amount??? Sun-Thursday?? Fri+Sat?
thanks! :goodvibes

We have 175 points and we break it up into 3 summer trips of 5 days (Sun-Thursday) and then a 3 night January trip. The 5 day trips are between 50-65 points and the January trip is in the low 30s.

We hope to use our AP discount and pay cash this year to stay Fri-Sat at a Deluxe we have not tried during Star Wars weekends.

We bought a 100 pt contract from TSS almost 2 years ago.

I know the "spiel" that DVC gives is 150 pts gets you a week (give or take). I heard that 4 different times (the time we went, and the three times afterwards we took family and friends who bought).

Every year, our 100 points gets us one 6-day 5-night vacations (Sun-Fri Value at OKW), one 5-day 4-night vacation (Mon-Fri Value at OWK) AND one 4-day 3-night vacation (Mon-Thurs VALUE at OKW) - and we have points left over!

Instead of staying at OKW all the time (which we love), sometimes we'll switch things up and stay at a different resort - just for a change of scenery. We don't get to stay as long, but we still get 3 vacations a year out of it!

Our DVC membership (especially with the AP discount) has been such a savings! I wish I joined years ago when I first looked (BWV was selling at the time). I wanted to pay cash, so it took a little longer to join, but no loan!

you're probably fine with low points totals, if you go in the off seasons and can do studios. We purchased more points initially, not sure about school schedules, and now we're glad we did. It's easy to take kids who are in preschool or even early K-2nd grade, but after that I've heard it gets harder. So for us, we purchased enough to go in the summers. We also allowed for times to get a 1 bedroom, and even 2 bedroom units if we took along family or friends.

If we lived a little closer and the drive wouldn't be so long, I'd like to go 3 times a year for short trips like one of the other posters mentioned. But, until our school years are through, that probably wouldn't happen anyway.

Have fun on your trip!

I am fortunate to have more points than this, but if I had 100 points or less I believe I would not use them for weekends unless they would go unused otherwise. I would look staying elsewhere for cash, or paying cash at the DVC resort for the weekend night and linking the reservation.

I agree with Granny...With so few points, stay away from Friday and Saturday night stays because of the high point costs for those nights.

We have a few more points (150) but we also have 3 children 10, 22, and 26. The 26 year old has a significant other so that makes a total of 6 people minimum. (We usually have 8 as there are always friends or family tagging along) This amount of people requires us to use a two bedroom. So we are in the same predicament of budgeting points. I can tell you we so far have always been in point defecit. That will probably change this year (but not for long). Coming from Texas we usually do a Sunday through Friday stay at DVC and then sometimes downgrade into two moderate rooms. We did this Christmas of 2004 and it worked out beautifully. We stayed Christmas Eve at Port Orleans French Quarter.

Just do what seems right for you and your traveling style and you will find your travel pattern shortly. Best of luck.

Just watch out for ADDONITIS. :bounce:

That's impressive point management 5, 4, and 3-night stays off of 96 pts +/-

At OKW, in value season, you can stay a total of 12 nights (Sun-Fri) for 96 points.

I would also (and I generally do) avoid fri/sat night stays.

just too many points.

you can stay at OKW for 5 nights in a studio for 40 points. :goodvibes

a 1-bedroom is 80 points. a 2-bedroom is 110. - this is adventure and choice seasons - well the studio part - the 1-bedroom goes up in choice.

We're in a similar situation. JUst waiting to close on a 70 point contract at VWL. I'm guessing we'll do the 5 night Sun-THur stay each year, banking perhaps 10 points to spend the next year. Don't get me wrong, 5 nights a year at VWL is a fine start in the DVC and we'll look forward to it.
