I would love to know how all of you display your race medals, bib numbers, etc. I have 2 medals (RFTT and 1/2) that are just hanging out on my cork board in the garage. I want to do something nice with them but I need ideas. Please Help!

First, congrats on your race bling! I know you are looking for a way to include your bibs and I'm afraid I don't have any suggestions for that, but someone suggested a really cool -- and really simple -- way to display your (ever-growing) collection of medals. I tried it and I really like the results. Basically you take a regular curtain dowel from the hardware store, stain it and pin the medal ribbons so the medals hang as they would from your neck. I know you may think right now, "But I only have two" but you are very young and this is a lifetime habit, right? You'll be amazed how quickly your collection will grow. I started off doing shadow boxes and the like but it became apparent that there wasn't going to be enough wallspace (or money) to display every medal I had. As the years passed, I'd been keeping all mine is a drawer where I couldn't even enjoy them. Now they hang in the room where I walk on the treadmill. It is so nice to look up at them and see my racing history before me as I walk daily. I love seeing my collection grow year to year as well. (I'm filling my second dowel now!) Here's a photo.

Wendy - Wow! I'm impressed. Great idea, by the way. I love that you can spot the Disney ones easily. :thumbsup2

Thanks Wendy! What a great idea! This might actually be the motivation I need to get my butt moving again.

I would have to fill the rod! :thumbsup2

I have to admit the big draw for me in displaying them this way was the ease and minimal cost. Even buying a shadowbox from the craft store and doing it myself was going to set me back a minimum of $15 per medal -- and you can only have so many shadow boxes. This was was simple, cheap, I was able to stain the dowel to match the furniture in the room so it actually looks "coordinated" and not junky. And I'm hopelessly non-crafty! I have medals from all distances -- even the Disney 5Ks -- and it's nice to be able to see them now.

Have fun with yours!

OK, I don't actually have any medals yet, but that is so cool I want to go get a dowel in anticipation! Pretty sweet.

Great idea Wendy:cool1:

I have over 40 marathon medals sitting in a box:( . Now I will be able to display them:)

Wow, Wendy that is awesome!! How long have you been doing endurance races? I think I will start with the shadowbox idea and then after a few years I can think about doing your rod idea (which is wonderful, I just think it will take me a long time to get enough bling to display).

My first marathon was in 1998. It was a training walk for my first Disney marathon in 1999. Seriously, you'll be surprised how many races give medals -- especially if you get to go to Disney for many. I like having a "souvenir" so (I'm embarrassed to admit) I tend to be more interested in races if they offer bling. I started all this "racing" to try to bring some consistency to my walking, and the potential for public humiliation in a race proved to be a powerful motivator for me. :rotfl2:

Enjoy your shadow box! May you have a long and happy career of bling ahead!

Well, I hate to admit to this but the main reason I'm participating in the full next year is to get that special 15th anniversary medal. :teeth: Otherwise, I think I would just stick to the half. :thumbsup2 Who knows, maybe I'll be hooked after the full. :rolleyes1

Over 40! You are the MAN! I'm glad my suggestion proved useful. I am really enjoying my growing display.

I didn't mention the 40 + Ultramarathons I have done also(in 97 I did 8 50 Mile + races and 2 50K's- go year 10 Ultra's:))

BTW, Looking forward to your Danskin report. Maybe we will see you in May?

LadyRob, your wedding picture is nice.

A friend of mine is going to help me with a shadow box to put my 1/2 medal in. I am not that creative.:rotfl:

Yes, I definitely want to see you and Linda in May before you go back home. Gotta check out your new Minnie bling as well!

I use a tie rack and hang each medal on a seperate peg.

I also make notes on my bib about the course, time, conditions, who I ran it with etc. This gets pinned to my medal along with any pictures, brochures, and course map.

It's not a real pretty presentation because there is a lot of stuff with each medal, but this is a great way for me to remember the fun parts of each race.

People enjoy seeing the maps and pictures as much as the medal.
