Hello,
I started a thread that I would like to delete. I have looked all over the site but can't figure out how to do that...:confused3

You can't. You can ask the mods to delete it, not sure how that goes. Most of the time they will lock a thread if it is going south.

Now you can go and erase your text in a thread. That is why we have "the rule" of quoting the original thread.

Okay, I will contact them. I did delete my text, but people copy and paste the entire text into their reply so it is still on there. I don't know why they can't just site a certain section instead of copy and pasting the whole thing that is already there... Thanks for your response.

I know which thread you are referencing. And regardless if somone quotes the entire text or not, the fact remains, you posted something on the internet, possibly without thinking through all the ramifications of that.

It's become a "rule" around here. If you start a thread, and people reply, and then you delete the text in the OP, nobody will understand what is going on. So the first person to reply usually quotes the entire OP.

And you can get a thread deleted under certain circumstances. I was able to get one deleted once.

I don't follow that 'rule". People use that "rule" so they can pull an a-ha on someone if they change their mind and want to delete something they wrote. It's done to be mean, not to help others understand what the post was about.

Just want to clarify that it is an unofficial "rule" among DIS posters (thus the " " around the word). It is not a DISboards rule that someone needs to quote the first (or any other) posts.

Always think very carefully about what you are going to post and whether it is really a good idea to get opinions and ideas no matter what from strangers. You can't control what happens once it is posted.

I once had someone PM me and ask me to delete my reply, which I had copied them on (I didn't copy them to be mean...I just hit the quote button out of habit..wasn't aware of any rule, but you can bet I will stop doing it now...I like to play nice. :)). I was more than happy to oblige.

I think most people are good natured on a one on one basis.

Good luck to ya.

If I were the OP, I'd PM the people who quoted me and politely ask them if they would delete the quote and explain that I mistakenly wrote too much information.

Ok i just wrote the same thing as another poster. lol

Mention something that might be construed as political and the thread will disappear.

Raise your hand if you just did a search of the OPs name.

:rolleyes1 Now who would do that? ;)

I follow the "rule". The main reason for my doing it though is because there have been plenty of times when the OP gets angry or upset at the replies they are getting and goes running back to their first post and deletes it. Kinda like the spoiled brat, grabbing their toys, slamming the door and running home.

OP, I'm not implying that this is the case with your thread. I think you are just having second thoughts for posting about a personal family issue. I would do as a PP suggested and PM the person who quoted you in hopes that they would delete their quote.

That's exactly why most people do it.

Sadly OP, now that you've started this thread, people will now search your name & see the thread in question. Just the nature of the human mind.

To the OP, I don't know what your thread is about, but if it makes you feel any better, I'm sure a lot of people here (myself included) have said things we wish we hadn't. The Community Board moves pretty fast, so chances are that thread will eventually get buried and become a distant memory.

I've definitely posted things here I wish I hadn't but like you said to the OP, a lot of people have done this and it gets left behind because of so many posts on the CB.

I believe the original thread has been deleted (or at least closed). And, I believe the OP changed his name. Good move actually.

At a minimum, he deleted his signature listing the many trips he's made to Disneyworld.

I find that fascinating, really. Post something. Get the responses you utterly should expect (if you spent anytime around here), and then get all huffy and indignant when you do get those responses.:confused3
