How do you decide where to stay?

Everyone has their reasons for where they want/need to stay. What works for one family, may not work for another. I have stayed at almost every hotel on the Harbor strip. Some I like better than others. BUT, we are a family with very different needs. My daughter has a service dog, and we raise service dogs. So, I look for a location with grass, with ground floor rooms. And large rooms. Our first location is the Residence Inn Maingate. I love having 600-800sf. I also love Candy Cane. And the Hilton. (Lanai deck.) I don't stay at DLH, GCH, or PPH. Just too difficult.

Traveling solo, Carousel is great, love the beds. I am too old for DI&S. Stayed there many times, it is great for a crash pad, but as I am getting older, beds are important. I don't stay at DLH, GCH, or PPH.

Can anyone tell me what the internet situation is like at the Anaheim Plaza Hotel? Is it wi-fi and is it free?

TIA! :goodvibes

No its not free : (

Its $10 a day! But since I got a $59 room rate for our stay next month, I'm not too concerned. I figure not having the hassle and price of taking ART or using the parking garage and tram will make up for it.

I'm not expecting anything great at this place but for a place to crash that is close and walking distance, it will work for us.

What really gets me about reviews, on internet sites, trip advisor, Dis, yahoo Etc of Hotel/Motel Is that they compare there rooms to there own houses! and there own cleaning skills. I got to the point where they open up with there was a rip in the wallpaper, a spot on the rug, i seen dust behind the toilet( OMG why are you even looking behind the toilet!) I just skip or delete!:badpc:. Really i visualize people in white suits going into rooms with white gloves!. I just stop reading!!. Bugs!!, thats all i read about any place other then DL resorts. People if you look around your own homes really hard, you will find bugs. Now I understand if you have mass **** roaches running around your room, by all means, but i read one review where a lady seen a roach crawling up a wall outside of the building and said she could not stay there!!,what, why??. Insects are part of this world, specially In so cal with the warm weather. Then there's the poor staff, they did not smile at me, so there rude, they did not comp me because they did not give me fresh towls!, so they have poor Mgt. These are people we have to understand that they make mistakes, there going to have bad days. I know, i have got upset when they did not respond to my needs, but i took deep breath and step away and regroup, lets not necessarily throw them under the bus because of a bad experience, and lets remember the whole experience at the place. I think if you are going to spend more then 50% of your time in the room, stay where you can really pamper your self, but if you are useing it to sleep and have a place to take a break dont be so hard on it

I agree that people expect too much out of hotel rooms sometimes. I'm a pretty clean person (perhaps spend TOO much time cleaning and re-cleaning, truth be known), but I don't inspect every corner of the room for dust or freak out if a cricket sneaks in to the room. Yes, I want it to be clean overall, but I'm not expecting it to be done to my standards. IT'S A HOTEL ROOM! I'm just there to sleep and get ready to go out.

Anyway, we stayed at the Red Lion last year because a coworker/friend of ours had stayed there recently and talked it up. This person also has a complaint about everything and everybody and it suited him, so we figured it couldn't be too bad, lol.

Love it!!!

For me it has to be a nice hotel with really nice beds. I hope no one thinks I am a snooty girl (honest I am not!) but I can't do a hotel that has bedspreads. I need freshly laundered bedding. We also do not travel a whole lot so when we do I want it to be nice.

Last time we stayed the the Marriott and had the ART passes. Being the first time there we did not really know how close was close and how far was too far. The Marriott was great! We walked everyday even though we has ART passes, which we never used once. At that time our kids were 6 and 9. This time we are booked at the Sheraton Park. It is even closer then the Marriott so we will not have a problem walking to and from and now our kids are 8 and 12, so even better! We still have the ART passes just in case someone does get tired at the end of the day or has a blister or something but we do not plan on using them very much. We looked at the DLH and the GC, but TBH we did not want to be stuck on the DTD side. We like walking to the Garden walk for dinner sometimes and for us being on the other side of the resort we would feel stuck there.

Every family has different needs and wants. A nice hotel with a suite would have been perfect, but they are all a mile out. It was more important to us to be able to walk so that is where we sacrificed comfort for functionality.

Totally agree with this post. Reviews are only to be used as guidance and with a grain of salt.

I know I probably sound like a broken record but I always stay at the Motel6 Maingate. We were there last weekend and I'll be back next week, once in Oct and twice in Nov. Everything they have there is perfect for my husband and I and I'm now on a first name basis with the manager and assistant manager as they have helped make several of our trips just a little bit more special. We love taking the air conditioned shuttle rather than walking and I love that our rates next week are around $48 a night, which includes our room with a fridge.

How do you like the Anaheim Plaza? MY DH is also a smoker, is the patio right off your room? How far was the walk to DL?

Any information would is appreciated. Tripadvisor reviews, as usual, are mixed.

We've never had any real issues there. The water can be a little weird and you can hear the maid's cart on the concrete but it's always been clean and mostly quiet. The patio is right off the first floor rooms so it works really well for him. The walk was about 8 minutes without hurrying. We cross at Disney Way and walk on the Disney side of Harbor.
