How do you decide on a room?

Planning on October 2017 4 night Bahama cruise on the Dream (at least thats what we are planning). We are planning on booking a deluxe family oceanview state room with verandah. How do you decide on which one to book? We are a family of 4 (myself my fiance and my 2 kids who will be 12 and 10). We are also are planning on getting married on board the cruise too :). I have researched the different letters and numbers and really haven't found out much difference (to me at least I cant tell lol). So what is the real room difference? Where do I want to be to get the best room for our money? I don't mind spending a little extra to get a nicer room either. Do you have a favorite room I should look into researching or a general area? Thanks so much.

Wow. A lot variables go into picking a cabin for most people. I don't think anyone can really decide for you.

If you don't mind an aft room, 9670 (and the port side mirror room) have a HUGE wrap around balcony. The room is really open so you can actually walk around without difficulty. We loved it, BUT we love aft rooms. There is a lot of walking with aft rooms. This room has no pull closed divider and no split bathroom, but we thought it was totally worth it.

You're going to get a million different opinions with this question though. Good luck! :-)

We like to stay right in the middle because it seems like it's easy to get to everything and we can just take the stairs a few decks up or down. Mid-ship, mid decks. We stayed in 7086 on the Dream, which I believe is the category you're looking at and thought it was a great location. My kids were 10 and 14 and we felt like we had plenty of space for everyone.

Thank you for the help. That room looks wonderful. I'm not sure about not having a divider between us and the kiddos but I will for sure keep it in mind. Yea I know I'm going to get lots of opinions it will hopefully give me an idea of where to start looking lol.

I always check the floor plans for the decks immediately above and below our cabin location. Especially if you or someone else in your cabin is a light sleeper, you want to be at least a deck away from all public spaces, in all directions.

I don't care. I let DCL choose. I stayed on Deck 2 oceanview and was fine with that!

Everyone has favorite rooms, so this is just my opinion. We always book the highest floor we can get, at midship to forward, port side. We have had no problems with deck noise. Concierge is great on the Fantasy (haven't been on the Dream), but it has out priced us now and I don't think I could be on the ship again without concierge (spoiled!).

You may want to look into booking 2 cabins. You and fiance in veranda and kids in inside room across the hall. If you do this you will need to book an adult ineach cabin but it doesnt matter where they sleep.
Then book the lowest veranda catagory available. I like all the way aft. Less foot traffic and less kisd running down the all (sounds like elephants running). I also like deck 6 because it's at the half way point of the different decks so it's always easy to take the stairs.

We are considering doing 2 rooms as well. I just don't know if I would be ok with my kiddos being that young in a room on their own (and this is our first cruise ever as well) just yet. I have also been told to try to stick towards mid ship on the first go around to make it a little less likely to feel a lot of movement. None of us have had issues with motion sickness but then again its all of our first cruises so we have no idea what to expect.

2 Rooms is a GREAT idea and the Verandah / Inside Stateroom is a great way to allow you a little 'honeymoon' time:)

BUT, if you go 1 room...personal favorite on the Fantasy (and I think the Dream has the same configuration) is Cabin 5052! It's a good location by Buena Vista Theater and the DECK is as big as the ROOM! Deck 5, Technically Forward, but it's the last 'forward' room in that area.

Regardless. Congrats and HAVE FUN!

Any motion and noise back there? Looks awesome!

3 of our 4 cruises were connecting insides for me, wife and 2 kids. Our most recent cruise we tried 1 cat 4A verandah instead. At the end of the cruise we all decided the verandah wasn't close to being worth not having the privacy and 2 bathrooms of the 2 insides. This is of course just my opinion but we love having 2 rooms and we spend so little time in their to enjoy the verandah it just makes more sense for us. BTW, congrats on your wedding!

Midship is best for least motion. We also prefer deck 6-8. Recently stayed on Deck 10 which costs more, but we take the stairs alot(healthy and impatient, lol) so we like having to just go up a few or down a few flights to get where we need. While I am a Deluxe girl at WDW,I am fine with inside stateroom on cruises, just have to have the split bathroom.

We like anything that doesn't keep you dependent on the elevators, especially the midship ones. They get so crowded (especially at dinner time) and many folks seem to have a problem waiting their turn to get on, so we generally just hit the stairs as it's often quicker. Deck 6-7 are ideal, in our opinion.

So far we've picked "special" rooms. Cat V first (Disney picked those), this time will be Cat T, and next is 8A mini suites. The common thread has been staying starboard. We like the views in port and, in the case of deck 12, watching the fireworks from our verandah. I don't think you can really go wrong though.

I could be wrong on this- but if you do 2 staterooms then won't your kids be charged as adults? My 5 year old is full price on our cruise..the only reason I can't justify a Disney Med Cruise yet.lol...maybe in 3 years...
We booked room 9544 on ours..5A..I think midship is best place to be on a cruise. It's really personal opinion. Good luck! :)

Thank you all for the advice. Its given us so many options to look into that we didn't know about before. These threads are really a wealth of information. I just want you all to know that with going into a first cruise these threads have been so helpful. I think we've come to a general consesus so far on the rooms but we will see time can only tell if we change our mind yet again lol.

When I chose the room for our upcoming cruise I wanted
1) a deck without a lot of noise above (for example, I picked deck 9 over 10 because of reports of noise from Cabanas)
2) a non-connecting room (easier said than done, but we got one)
3) starboard so we can see CC when we are docked
I am midship, in fact 9574 is the first 4A room on that side coming from forward. We are close to the midship elevators so we may have some noice from that but I'm not worried about it.
Now next time I booked 8188. It will only be me and DH so no worries about my son going to Vibe all the way on the other end (he wouldn't mind anyway). I wanted an extended balcony and there weren't any available on that cruise by the time I knew my 2017 vacation. It is still a non-connecting room with only other rooms above me, though.
