We are visiting Disney this August with our two young children (3 and 5) and my parents (in their 60s). I know it is going to be HOT!!! For those who go in the summer, what are your tips for dealing with the heat? I need as many as I can get!!!

I hate the sun and heat but we went last July and I had no trouble at all. There are plenty of places at WDW to get into AC so we just took breaks whenever we got hot or tired. DD and DH like Frogtogs.

We like to go back to the resort in the hottest afternoon hours -- relax in/by the pool!

We're going in Aug/Sept for 10 nights. Plan on spending 3 days at the water parks and plenty of time at the pools! Most of our park days will be RD - 1, break 'til 6, then back to same park we left. Exception to this is AK, where we plan on having a nice long TS lunch to help keep us cool, along with a few air conditioned shows in the afternoon.

I'm going to bring at least two personal fan misters and buy enough Frogg Toggs for us all.

Drink lots of water! You can bring a cooler in, so I would bring water and gatorade. I would also buy a few mister fans. They do sell them in the parks, but they are not cheap. I also only wear light colored clothing during the day -mostly tank tops and shorts and sundresses. We hit the parks early, and take a pool break from lunchtime to early evening and then head back to the parks. Don't forget the sunscreen! :)

On our early September trips, my wife carried a pocket mister like this one. Besides that: rope drop every day, wear wicking loose dry-fit light-colored clothing, lunch inside in AC, drink lots of water, free cups of ice water at counter service locations, carry gatorade/propel powder packets to mix with water, pool in afternoon, shower and back to park when sun went down.

We have been going every July or August for the last 5 years and last year was unbearable hot. Heat indexes over 110 EVERY day for the 9 we were there. We got to the parks early, left around 12:30 to go swim and lay in the AC. Around 3:30 we would shower and get dry clothes on and go to the second park. It really helped breaki midday. And with the exception of the AK, each parks have good buildings to jump into for some cool temps too. When we needed a break from heat we did a few indoor attractions with short waits like the hall of presidents, COP, Muppets, Images of France, etc.

For me, one of the quickest ways to cool down is to get the top of my head wet (usually pouring some water on top of my head). Wearing hats (which is advisable)? Wet them and then wear them!

Excellent advice. I would add that most CS restaurants give away free cups of ice water even if you don't buy anything. I use a refillable ater bottle and pour the water into it. I also like to wear a wide-brimmed straw visor, which has a velcro strap that lets me loop around my park bag when not using it. I haven't tried Frogg Toggs chilly pads yet, but plan to next trip.

So Never been in the heat of summer, and the last 10 or so years have mainly been nov, and these days, Dec. So, we've recently added a spontaneous trip in here, for the 24 hr day!! So we are going this coming Thu morning thru Sun(may 21-24). I was hoping for NOT summer hot and humid temps, partly why we go in cooler months, but instead I'm seeing hotter than usual temps with highs of 94* and humid! So not what I wanna see!! Ugh!! My DD24 gets so mad at me for complaining, but I am definitely grateful to be able to go, for sure!! Just worried how I'll do in four days of heat!! But, I did take some precautions, hoping they will work very well!! Upon many disser recommendations, I bought Frogg Toggs for myself and DD24, and also found a personal fan, 02 cool necklace fan!! So, besides the above mentioned plans of getting into places with AC like shops, restaurants, and rides, I'm hoping to beat the heat with the personal fan and the Frogg Toggs! The Frogg Toggs seem a bit odd, and not sure how they work, but lots of dissers, and rave reviews at Amazon convinced me they are a must for the hot and humid weather! Hopefully I can report back that they worked great and kept me cool! 8-)

Rope drop! Get your must-dos done early. The heat really gets brutal and miserable midday. Rotate in attractions where you can sit and relax for a bit in the air (like Country Bear, that kind of thing). We like to do a table service lunch in the parks at 11. Drink water. Frogg Toggs can be helpful (we found they didn't help last August it was so hot but still worth trying). Hats, sunscreen of course.

MK for some reason isn't as bad as some of the other parks during the heat, I think because there are so many attractions and shops to go in and out of. World Showcase is extremely hot during midday, I would save that for an evening if you can. Futureworld isn't bad because of the big buildings you can spend some time in. AK feels hot too. Hollywood Studios isn't bad.

It rains pretty much every day so count on that. Not a bad idea to have ponchos. Swimming can be tricky during the afternoon break because of the lightning, the pools often close. They usually reopen but not necessarily on your schedule. We've had trips where we had to carve out a morning for the pool per the request of my kids lol

Be ok with getting less done in August than you can on a cooler day at another time of the year, between the heat and the thunder and lightning storms.

Have a great trip, we'll be there in August too!
