Right now, I'm really stressed out between college and other things. I end up totally freaking myself out. How do you deal with stress? I'm sick of those "take it one day at a time" and "take a deep breath." I need real, solid solutions. Help please?

i just do something that I enjoy i.e shopping, watching a DVD while stuffing my face with chocolate, have a bath. I just take time away from friends and have some time to myself.

do something fun like play with ur dog, cat, hermit crab ....(etc) or go on the computer or eat ice cream or hang out with ur friends. :sunny:

If I'm feeling super stressed or just have a big problem that I just need to vent on, I usually write in my journal. Call me lame if you want but it really works for me. It just helps to be able to write everything down and get it all out. Or you could always just take a day and do w/e you want to do, go shopping, go to the movies, eat ben & jerrys! < - - yumm! Hope you feel less stressed!

i agree with everyone else...

do something you LOVE

plus, hanging with friends can REALLY take your mind off of any situation...

When I'm stressed, I pick out an actor that I love (ex: Adam Sandler) and watch a movie marathon of all his movies with my friends (tip: pick an actor with a lot of movies, then you'll have a lot to watch, and the more you watch, the less stressed out you'll be =])

popcorn::

Try to relax, take a nap. Do something that you love like others said.

I was really stressed last semester, and I totally didn't handle it well, and I kind of suffered from that. So anyway, these are my solutions:

1. Get a stressball. Those things really help for times when you just need to let it out.

2. Try to exercise everyday. I've found that by running, rollerblading, or playing tennis, I feel a lot better and a lot happier.

3. Take a long, hot bath. I know this sounds weird in the summer, but it's a great way to relax and just think things through.

4. If you like to bake (I can't remember if you do... ), make something simple, like cc cookies or brownies. You'll feel better after you've accomplished something, and the chocolate is a big plus! :teeth:

5. Watch one of your fav movies( or likewise, listen to your favorite music). It will take your mind off of things for an hour or two.

6. Read one of your favorite books. Like a movie, it will 'transport' you to a different world.

7. Call up one of your close friends and just talk about anything.

8. Plan a movie night with your friends. Go see a movie (a funny one is good!) and then have dinner or go to Starbucks afterwards.

9. Write in a journal. This is a good way to let out your feelings other than telling them to another person.

10. Play the piano. I know that it really helps me to relax when I can just sit down and play a piece by heart.

Wow, this turned into Claire's Top Ten Stress-free Solutions. :goodvibes

I hope this helps Ash!

Brain, you should really elaborate on that... :rotfl2:

Listen to Georges AWSOME accent!!!

Because that won't freak him out, to know people are listening to him as a stress reliever... :rotfl:

=============================

I would say playing the piano is a GREAT way to rid yourself of some stress. This past year I had to deal with more stress than EVER! I would break down almost every night and found myself suffering from insomnia and what-not due to stress. Whenever I started to feel stressed, I would sit down and play the piano..a song I knew REALLY well (any piano player will know how playing a well known song really CAN send you off into an alternate world). It relaxed and calmed my mind down (I know that is redundant but still lol).

I don't know what would work well for you, but I know this helped me. (and considering you are a piano player yourself... ;) )

Hey, wuddya know? Another wheelchair user on the teen boards! Yeah, I use a wheelchair full-time, an electric one to be specific. So I can commiserate with your stress. :grouphug: I have Congenital Muscular Dystrophy; may I ask what your diagnosis is?
Okay, to get back on topic. :goodvibes Ash, I think I may have a few suggestions that could help. First of all, is there anything you can do right now to resolve some of the things that you're stressed over? For example, if you're worried about paying for college, you could start looking for scholarships or ask the University if they have a work study program. That's just an example, and it may be that it's one of those situations where you just have to sit and wait (never fun). Second, I would suggest developing your hobbies or possibly starting a new one. That will help pass the time with doing something you really enjoy. Plus, you'll be developing your talents. If you enjoy reading, summer is a great time to finally get around to those books or even series you've been waiting to read. I've heard that exercising also can really help. Also, just talking to someone about your worries can really help, especially if it's with a loved one; and since they know you really well they may have better insight as to how to help you. (Wow, I'm saying the word help a lot, aren't I? lol ) And as other people have said, chocolate, ice cream, and/or a nice lighthearted movie helps get your mind off things. popcorn:: :happytv:
I'm sorry you're feeling so stressed, and I hope things get better soon. :grouphug:

This is going to sound really cheesy at first, but it really works. its a form of self hypnosis. but it will make you sleepy!

okay

step one (say this out loud in a normal tone of voice, breathing in deeply each time)
I see ________
I see ________
I see ________
I see _______
I see ________

then replace I see with I hear. then I hear with I feel . each time saying five things you see, hear, or feel.

Step two (say this in a slightly lower tone of voice still breathing in deeply)
I see ________
I see ________
I see ________
I see _______

then replace I see with I hear. then I hear with I feel . each time saying four things you see, hear, or feel.

Step three (an even lower tone of voice, still breathing deeply)
I see ________
I see ________
I see _______

then replace I see with I hear. then I hear with I feel . each time saying three things you see, hear, or feel.

Step four (lower your tone, still breathing deeply.
I see ________
I see _______

then replace I see with I hear. then I hear with I feel . each time saying two things you see, hear, or feel.

Step five
(youre whispering now but keep breathing deeply)
I see _______

then replace I see with I hear. then I hear with I feel . each time saying one thing you see, hear, or feel.

It really helps me. maybe it'll help you too. It works because your brain focuses all of its energy on the task at hand, of naming different objects that you see hear and feel, and it basically forgets to worry and stress and wears itself out for ahwile, giving you time to calm down and think.

hope that helped. :goodvibes
