Personally....
I like the luggage with air holes concept + crash helmet
- what a hoot!!!
But I might improve on that by saying you spare damaging the luggage and just give a little oxygen bottle and zip two kids in just before boarding!
Seriously though... I was AMAZED to stumble across what must have been "fire sale clearance rates" on icruise for last minute DCL September sailings. Rates were as low as sub $200 on selexct 4 day sailings. These rates appeared for only about 3 weeks and we watched the cabin space sell and disappear because we were trYING to get some relatives to buy in. We were already reserved to sail - in fact our trip starts this Saturday) so we were not all that interested in buying in - though we were sort of bummed with how cheap it was.
These rates are very rare and hard to stumble across. I am NOT promoting icruise - as I bought through another TA... and have patronized several different TAs.
So - aside from that the best strategy is probably to get a suitable couple to sail with you IF they can share their cabin with a couple of your kids. This would generally be assumed to be exoanded family like grand parents, uncles or aunties.
I would encourage that when you finally do book try the REVERSE AUCTION SITE Cruisecompete - where you specify your date, catagory and various details - and a bunch of TAs bid for your business.
So you then contact the lowest bidder to setup the cruise.
At any rate - we hope troipical depression #13 (LEE?) does not become a hurricane and disrupt our sailing next weekend.
