My screen needs cleaning, so does my fingerpad thingy and around the keys. What's safe to use on them?

THANKS!

On todays' news at noon. How YOU can clean your laptop!

Here's an interesting artice sent in to us by one of our computer technician viewers:

"Dear Stan,

first off, let me tell you I love your news broadcasts!
I often get a lot of questions about how to keep my computer clean. Being a computer technician I have found possibly the easiest way to clean your computer! Simply fill your bathtub with water, and put the computer inside the tub, and power that sucker up! It works wonders!

Thanks again Stan.

Your fan,
Billy pinkerton"

On a side note, A "Billy Pinkerton" has passed away today. The coroner reports have said the cause of death to be electrocution. No further details are available at the moment.

On a lighter note...

I clean the screen using glasses cleaner. You know the spray and soft cloth. Works wonders.

For the keyboard I use compressed air. If you've got gunk around the keys, use some rubbing alcohol and gently clean the keys one by one. Same thing for the fingerpad.

no no!! Don't use glass cleaner or anything w/ alcohol. There is a special protective coating on your screen that will be ruined by alcohol. I just use a wet (with water) cloth and gently rub it. everything should come off with just some water on a papertowel.

tricia.

no, I didn't mean windex. I use my lens cleaner, the one for my glasses.

No alcohol in them, cause my glasses have a protective coating on them too.

just press your lips togeather and blow :rolleyes1

I thought that's what you do when you want to whistle (atleast that's what Lauren Bacall told Bogey one time:p ).

There's also this can thingy with a little straw at the nozzle and it spews a powerful jet of air to blow all the dust and little particles out of the little crevices...it's at most computer supply stores...sorry can't think who produces it...

I get mine from Office Depot though.

I use Dust Off Monitor Wipes. It says they are safe for laptops, tv screens, lcd's. When I use it on my screen, I also give the keys and mouse a wipe, too. I was also told NOT to use Windex or anything like that.

Gentle cycle, no bleach. Make sure you use the rack in the dryer, so it doesn't get tumbled.

No paper towels either, fast way to scratch the screen. Water, very soft, CLEAN cloth, once a week, LIGHTLY. Same on the keyboard, obviously while off.
