DH is military, so we always call Disney and book over the phone for the military room rates and specials. We purchase our discounted tickets at our ticket/travel office on post.
I usually do the planning myself, online, although I have used Dreams Unlimited a couple of times as they were offering special incentives for things I wanted (like when WWoHP opened, I believe they offered free RT transport from our Disney hotel to US and back, if you booked through them- something like that).
It's too bad that some agencies advertise to be "Disney specialists" when they really aren't- even those with "ears." I checked a couple of agencies for our first few trips, but always managed to get better deals when planning on my own, whether offsite or onsite. Besides, I like to plan (OK, maybe not to the level of FP+, LOL, but I like to plan).
We always use a TA. We usually get a bounceback offer and then they send it to our TA from CAA (Canadian version of AAA). Our TA from CAA is incredible. She is very knowledgeable of Disney and deals. This year we booked a 2 week free dining bounceback at POFQ.
This year though, I am going to try to book my own flights because Southwest releases (generally) their new blocks of flights early in the morning (before my TA gets to work). Last year we didn't book until after 10am and flights had already gone up over the course of a few hours. I am nervous to book flights on my own but I think I can do it
Also, we just added 2 days on the front of our vacation at the Beach Club (using a 'magical' deal with a TA online). Hope this works out ok
Thanks everyone! This past time our TA was hard to get in touch with and my room was supposed to be connected with my dad's and we ended up in buildings that were a 10 minute walk between. I booked everything else myself; airfare, dining, fp, etc. Not sure why I didn't just book it all myself. I feel better about doing it next time! Thanks for the advice!
