How do you become a travel agent?

What are the steps in starting your own business as a travel agent? Anyone here that does travel agent stuff part-time while holding a full-time job?

Since our PM conversation, I thought I would add a few comments to your thread for the benefit of others.

Becoming an independent home based travel agent is quite easy, but there are several less taunted caveats to be aware of. There are many host agencies that are willing to take your money and "sign" you up. Research your options; this choice will determine your profitability by setting your share of your commissions, determine which major software you will use and these can vary in difficulty and reoccuring cost, set your preferred suppliers, etc. There are some great getting started resources available; if you are interested in learning more from a person who did this four weeks ago, PM me.
