me, my husband and 6 year old son are going to WDW for the first time in October (7 days/6nights)My son will have all his stuff in a carryon, then my husband and are are gonna share a checked bag.we thought about buying each of us a carry on sized suitcase so we dont have any checked luggage on the way down, but that would cost more than the $25 checked bag fee. we are planning on bringing a big empty duffel in our suitcase to pack our souvenirs in to come home. we are planning on buying a LOT of souvenirs and doing some christmas shopping while in WDW too. But then we have to pay to check the duffel on the way home, but again the $25 fee is less than buying another carryon suitcase. we are also going to carry a back pack on the plane so we can put any fragile items in there on the way home, as well as our son's medical equipment. does this sound like a good plan? any suggestions?

i only bring one or two things - the rest I mail home. I am too afraid to have something break on the plane, through security, etc but when Disney packs & ships - if it arrives broken they replace it. Gives me piece of mind too. I also do Christmas shopping and this way the girls don't see the stuff in the hotel room. I can always delay opening the box that comes in the mail til they go to bed too.

we don't buy too many things since we have been to WDW a lot, but usually we have a child in diapers with us so souvies go in that bag. Empty by the end of the week.

Otherwise we pay to ship the stuff home. It isn't that expensive and Disney packs it up nice.

I ship mine home as well. If you have a rental car, you can ship pretty cheaply at many places around the maingate entrance. There is a Fedex kinkos on vineland and they have boxes to put your stuff in.

This trip we did a bit of both. We shipped a bunch of stuff home and we bought the Disney luggage (spend $40 and get a 2 piece luggage set for $15?) and we used that for other stuff. The luggage consisted of a rolling bag that we used for a carry-on and a little duffle type bag that we carried on as well.

We shipped a box home from our resort that we packed ourselves - Caribbean Beach. Check with the concierge desk at your resort check in area they usually have the capability to assist you with shipping a package Fedex or USPS. They had scales to weigh the package and printed out the shipping label. They even let us use some packing tape - though I wish we had packed our own. We paid the shipping expenses right there and they kept the box for the FedEx truck to pick up. (Note: At the Caribbean Beach Resort this can only be done at the concierge desk at the Custom House and not at the concierge desk at the Old Port Royale as they don't have the scales)

We got the empty box from the disney store at the resort. We just asked if they had a box left over from stocking the shelves and they found us one.
