How do they measure height?

Hi there,
We are off to DL in april and I am wondering how they measure height? Is it 40 inches or is a shoe allowance added, meaning that the line is actually 40 and a half or 41 inches high? The reason i ask is that last time we went in Nov 05 my daughter met the 40 inch height requirement (just barely) in DL but they said she was too short in CA. So now we are at the 42 inch requirement for some rides in CA and i am wondering if she will make it, she is just under 42 inches barefoot but with shoes is just over 42 inches. I just want to be prepared this time, if she wont make it then i would rather avoid CA altogether as she was not a happy girl that they let her on all the rides in DL and then said she was too short in CA. Has anyone else noticed that the height is different between the 2 parks or was that just my experience?

I haven't actually noticed the height difference. I do know it's 40 inches with shoes and I think it's exact not really 41 inches. Ds just barely touched the bottom of 40 inches. We measured him with the shoes on and he was about 39 3/4 inches.

I say go for it and try. I think she will be fine. She can still do Soarin, ToT and Jumpin Jellyfish.

Put on her thickest soled shoes!

From waiting on line while families argue with cast members about height restricitions, I can tell you it's from the ground, no matter the shoes. They have a measuring stick which the head of the person in question has to touch. I've seen them get very picky at California Screamin' where they'd try to stick fingers between the stick and head, so I guess it's to the skullcap, not hair.

I'm a bit worried about this also. My youngest daughter measured 40 inches at the doctors office, but when I measure her at home she is 39 inches. I think I'm going to put her in her thickest soled shoes to make up the difference. I hope that works! She wants to be able to go on rides that will "tickle her belly" and I think she will be disappointed if she is not tall enought for rides like Thunder Mtn.

We used hiking boots, when DS7 was too little, worked great!

I have the same problem. My DD was 39" at the Dr. and I am hoping with her tennis shoes she will be 40", but I don't think she will be right at 40" with the tennis shoes. I was hoping to find a little higher heeled tennis shoe by the time we went, but I haven't found any higher than what she already has. The hiking book might be a good idea!
