Hi guys, There is a portrait company in my town called venture (maybe they are in the US too?)

Their pictures use very bright colours and almost appear washed out in some cases. I was wondering if anyone knows how to do this effect as my DSIL would like me to try to get some pics of my neice for her like this...

I have Adobe CS3 but have no idea how to use it...

I'm not sure if I am allowed to post one of their pics as an example but I guess as the pics are on their website for everyone to see there is nothing wrong with sharing with you? I'm sure someone will tell me if ive done wrong.. here is a link to their site...

as always i appreciate your help.. :)

It didn't go to a specific picture so I'm not sure exactly what you're after but it sounds close to some pics I did of my hubby and boy. The trick is layers at different opacities. For mine, I made a highly contrasted pic, duplicated it, turned the copy to black and white, duplicated that and turned that a mild sepia. Then I played with the blends of the black and white/sepia until I achieved what I was after. Check out the scrapping sites, you'll find tons of tuts on just about any look you want.
This girl has lots of tuts on blending for effect, scroll down on the right and look under tutorials:

I had a quick try with some high key tutorials last night and sort of got near to what i am looking for. maybe with a little more practice. it would help if i knew a little more about photoshop, although i can just about find my way around it i do struggle and i'm not confident

If anyone knows of any shortcuts I would appreciate the help..

the effect i am looking for is like this http://thisisventure.co.uk/images.aspx?cat=4

the colours seem enhanced while other areas are washed out....

:goodvibes

Looks like they're high contrast with a huge color boost. Upping you contrast will deepen your colors too. All those back rounds are white too so it ups the effect. Like I said earlier, play with layers and opacity. That way you can add and remove things without messing up your actual picture. The blog I posted earlier, she has a tutorial specifically for that look.

I'm 98 percent certain I have a book with a tutorial on how to achieve that look. I'll poke around and see if I can find it -- presuming you're not in immediate need.

The book in question is probably one of those with Scott Kelby's name on the cover ...

That's good, because so far I haven't been able to locate the tutorial. I know I have it somewhere. Trouble is, I've got so many books on Photoshop -- not to mention a staggering number of issues of Photoshop User -- and the tutorial could be in any one of them! :scared1: But I'll keep looking ...

You can accomplis this shot wiht your contrast, curves, and saturation. I love how photo's look wiht this look also. Although not technically correct, I like the look.
