How do they choose the family that "opens" the MK gates?

Just wondering if you have to get in line at dawn or is it random?

We were picked for opening family in August 2004. It was just great. Really memorable.

The park opened at 9AM and we were at the gates at 7:30 because we had 8:05 PS's. We were enthusiastic and my DD's aren't shy.

Everyone was pretty quiet that morning but I did jump in when a lady from the back of the line came forward to argue with the CM that the Animals on the safari weren't real. I spoke up and offered my digital camera pictures from the day before. I seem to remember a controversy years ago about one of the deer. Multiple people had pictures of it in the same spot so it looked stuffed. Maybe it was true when the park opened but now I look for it and I can't find it.

We keep trying every trip now with no luck.
