How do they announce soft openings?

Do they add them to the calendar ? Do you show up at the park and the event/attraction is just there/opened ?

I haven't seen them on the calendar, usually it is just open or perhaps an announcement via the PA system.

I'm not sure and never have experiences one...but we will be there at the beginning of may and will certainly swing by star tours and little mermaid while there just in case! I always stop at the informtion booth in DCA so I'll ask there too!!

We got to do the soft opening of Monsters Inc. The way we found out was they announced it over the speaker while we were riding the monorail. I think you kind of just have to be in the right place at the right time.

The nature of a soft opening is that it's the "beta testing" period for the ride (or show), and as such the ride can be opened and closed as needed by the imagineers and operations CM's to tweak or fix things. And very importantly, Disney doesn't want to create any expectations that the ride will be available before the official advertised opening date. After the official opening you're free to go to Guest Relations and complain and want your money back if the new whiz-bang attraction is closed for the whole day, but during the soft opening period you can't do that.

Because of the above, the best bet is to stop by the entrance and see if a CM is hanging out there and ask. Also ask CMs around the parks because they may find out when they get in that day that an attraction will be opening at some point that day.

The nature of a soft opening is exactly that: soft. Not announced. Not a sure thing. Can be up and down throughout the day. Sometimes, ou can just walk by and see it's open. Or there may be cast members at the entrance "inviting" people to enter.

But keep in mind that is ONE attraction out of I-haven't-counted-how-many others that are available and to expect a refund because ONE thing is not open is not realistic or reasonable. But, of course, people will always ask. :goodvibes
