How do the extra hours work at night AK?

Although I've been going to Disney for about twenty five years the nighttime extra magic hours are new for me (I loved the early ones and was disappointed when they did the character caravan a couple years back). How do they generally seem to work at AK. The site says it is open up to three hours later. Anyone know what the average hours for the evening extra hours at animal kingdom are? I am going in July and am compulsive about planning.

We stayed for the EMH a week ago Sunday at AK. The park closed at 5 and then they extended 3 hours for resort guests. I was told the safari would be open until 7. We went to the park around 2 and we had finished everything that we wanted to see by 5:30 on our way out we caught the lion king show. It wasn't too crowded so we were able to see everything we wanted including doing the Dinosaur ride two times! We also sat and watched some of the "side" entertainers as well.

We have also done the AK evening hours. Please note that the safari still closes at 5 pm, even when the park stays open until 8 pm.

How do the extra magic hours work? Do they make everyone leave the park and then let you back in only with your KTTW card? Or do they let everyone stay in the park but only let the people with the resort ID on the rides/ in the attractions?

We're going in May 2006 and had been reading about this in some of the books/brochures. Just curious!

No one is forced to leave any of the parks for the evening EMH. Only Disney resort guests can obtain the wristbands that identify you to the Cast Members. Only people with the wristbands can get on rides/attractions. Anyone else on line will be told they cannot ride. They are still free to stay and shop or eat.

Last week the Safari Ride was open during EMH just not as long...until 7 not 8. They were checking wrist bands when I went on.

I was just looking at the wdw website and it said that you can get it if you have a "magic your way" pass??? What's that? We have 5 day hopper plus. Am I eligible? Do you buy the tickets for it at the resort like you used to?

As long as you are staying at a Disney resort you can ride. You do not have to buy tickets, it is free. Just be sure to have everyone in your party with their own resort card in hand. They check the resort card, not the ticket.

My son will be 2 on the first day of our trip next week and he will not have a ticket because he's free. Will he get a resort ID or will they just give him a wristband for EH or does he even need it considering his age.

Thanks
