How do people afford more than one pet ?

That is wonderful that you decided to look out for them. We have a dog and a cat and they are part of the family. I just can't see how someone could treat another living thing like that. I wonder if they even feel guilty about it? :confused3 You are doing a great thing by taking them into your home. :worship:

This is so true and I'm going to try and find the beagles a good home, they are still pups they can't be over 1 year old and I already have a women coming tomorrow to look at them so we shall see, if she doesn't work out, I will find them a good home, they deserve that.

I hope she falls in love with them and it all works out.

I love :lovestruc big hound dogs. How lucky he is to have found you.

I live in the Houston area and years ago there was a vet called the "Roadside Vet". Every Saturday he and his staff traveled to a different part of town and set up a clinic in a parking lot. Everything was on a first come, first serve basis. He offered very, very low cost vaccinations and check ups for animals. You may have something like that in your area you can look into. This was a lifesaver for me years ago when I was young and struggling.

Do you have any PetsMarts in your area? The PetsMart by us has a mobile unit set up on Fridays that offer low cost (it may even be free - not sure about this) spay & neutering services so maybe they do low cost vaccinations also?

I feel your pain, I know how fast these things add up, we currently have 3 dogs!

Please keep up updated, I sure hope you are able to keep these dogs. I think you should post pictures of the sweet doggies.

We still have it in Houston and surrounding areas.

God Bless you, OP... we have three "throw-away" hounds and I love them dearly. We also foster for the Great Pyrenees Rescue and usually have a large, white, fluffy dog living here too.
Tractor Supply has a travelling vet here in Indianapolis area that gives low cost shots on weekends. Try their website to see about ones near you.
Also look for a low cost spay-neuter program in your town. They are life-savers for folks who have a "herd".

It sure was their lucky day to be dropped off at your house. I'm so glad they have someone who cares about them. Hopefully the lady will take the babies.

I've never asked my vet before about a discount for multiple animals but I'm going to have to ask now. My vet will help you get in touch with someone if you need assistance though.

We found a cat a while back that after treatment had to be put to sleep and they put me in touch with someone who paid for it because we had already spent so much trying to save him.

You are such a sweet Lady!

We have two dogs, 4 cats and 4 horses. The vet bills on the horses can be astronomical. One of my clients just spent close to $10k for surgery on her horse. My vets (both large animal and small) do not offer any discount for having more than one animal but the y do have payment plans. I suggest Care Credit. www.carecredit.com

I just want to say that the world is a much nicer place because of people like you, thank you.

We have 3 dogs, a cat and a fish. One of our dogs is a beagle, he's about a year and a half year old. Let me tell you, beagles are the most loving dogs, and the most energetic. They are wonderful dogs, but not for people who just want a calm dog. Life is always a little crazy (and a lot wonderful) when a beagle is around.

Around here there are vets that offer discount vaccines every week or every other week in parking lots like Tractor Supply. They advertise in the paper where they will be and when, even how much the vaccines are. They advertise in the pets section, very small add, like any other classified add. We take in strays too, the last one had a microchip and was reunited with her owner, much to my dh dismay, he was ready to keep her!

Sorry, I don't have advice for cheaper vet care because I live outside the US (fleas are super aggressive here), but instead of using Dawn to wash the dogs, consider using :worship: Tressemme human shampoo in the black bottle (I get it in an American store). It kills fleas on contact. We use it on our dog and then wash him in an oatmeal dog shampoo. The monthly Frontline/Advantix stuff just wasn't enough. My dog is an inside/outside dog and my cat is totally inside. My cat doesn't even need flea treatments because the dog stays flea free.

However - please be careful of Banfield. Not that they give bad care - they are pricey and will try to sign you up for their "insurance" plan. It is not quite the deal they would have you believe.

OT, but I wanted to point out that this might be a regional thing....our local Banfield is FABULOUS...and we have the insurance plan. It has saved us a TON over the years, we have a doggie with chronic ear issues (basset hound). I really looked around when we got this dog, our long standing vet retired and I didn't know where I wanted to take our new puppy. We've been absolutely thrilled with Banfield in our area.

I have never ever heard of using Tressemme on a dog but I will look into that.

UPDATE :!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The two beagles are off to their new home, they were took this morning by a co-worker of my dh that lives on a few acres of land and already has one beagle so she fell in love with both of these pups so that's a good thing, plus her whole family came to see them so I love whenever that happens.

I will take the hound to the vet next week, it won't be a problem for me now.

Happy New Year Everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yay!!

I still suggest Carecredit. It is a great way to help finance vet bills (they also help with regular medical bills. Dh used it for his crown at the dentist).

The first thing I would do it contact the local police. it is illegal to abandon animals.. Another thing ( although I doubt it) is they might have been stolen...there are a ton of missing beagles on petfinder...where are you located?

This is not the first time someone has abandoned their animals on my land, we live in an area where this happens a lot. And the reason I didn't contact the police this time was because this same thing happen about a year ago and all the police does is come out and take a report and then the animals are taken off by animal control and destroyed within the week, I just can't do that ever again now that I know the outcome.

Also I think you can have a sense when an animal has belonged to someone and been cared for, these animals were not well taken care of and even if they did belong to someone I feel they should be charged with animal abuse because of how thin all three of them are.

Should I have given the beagles to a home this fast, well I don't know, maybe not, but when a window opens you have to move, or a good home would have been gone to some other pet and these needed a good, clean and safe home where they could be loved.

Should I keep this hound dog, well I don't know, but I am ....hehe

I am so happy to hear the wonderful news. We just adopted our third puppy today. We weren't ready for another addition but my heart broke when seeing all the unwanted pets there are. We use VPI and they give a discount on the two dogs we have now and hopefully a better rate with three.
