How do Magic Bands work if your onsite stay is your last day

Not sure that I am understanding this. I don't think this is an answer to any question posed, but also it would depend completely on the ticket a person had.

Apologies for that, I was very unclear. It was supposed to be a question and it applies to me. Basically, I was wondering can I only go into the parks on 14 days - despite being there for 15. So I would need to decide whether to go in one of the day of arrival or departure.

Yes.
My suggestion is to schedule a nice meal at a resort for either day1 or day 15, such as ohana and then watch fireworks and the water pageant from the beach. You could also go to downtown disney or the boardwalk. These are disney things you can do without a ticket.
