Start with pics. Chronological is probably the best way to go.
Get a notebook and keep it with you to jot down funny stories or special moments you remember.
gather any things you've kept, flowers, movie tickets, etc.
figure out if you want to do digital or paper.
Figure out what size album you want, 8x8 and 12x12 are the most popular.
Divide all the stuff up into page ideas, put them in ziploc bags and label them in order......
........then go shopping. Don't make the mistake that some of us did by just buying hoards and hoards of stuff. Be specific.
Sorry if the following is stuff you already know, you didn't say if you've ever paper crafted before.
The things that you will need right away are a paper trimmer. You can get a personal size one at Michael's, Hobby Lobby, ACMoore, Joann's Fabric. You will also want acid free adhesive. Most of us use a tape runner. Either an ATG or disposable runners (I have ATG and I use the ones from Recollections, found at Michael's). And I would get a nice acid free black and brown journalling pen. I also use a white one but we all like different brands so that is something you would need to decide.
