How do I rent from a DVC owner?

I've read everything and I'm still confused between asking to rent a reservation and asking to rent points. Looking for late Aug. 2009 and would like to respect the rules and protocol. TIA!

If you are looking to rent from a DVC member for specific dates that you want to travel, you are essentially asking to rent their points, but your thread would begin with "Reservation Wanted . . ." You would provide your resort/villa type request, dates you want to travel, etc, and anyone who has the points to rent to you can respond.

If someone is offering a "reservation for rent," that means that they have already booked a certain room for certain dates, and if you are interested in that particular room for that particular time, you can respond to them.

At the top of the Rent/Trade boards there are some very detailed threads about how you should go about posting there. They have very specific rules about how you title your thread.

Unless you are a DVC member points have no value at all and cannot be used for anything. Non-members would need to rent a reservation made using DVC points. For that reason, a request for a reservation needs to have the title "Reservation Wanted".

Be sure to read the posting rules at the top of the board. There are also some links in those threads with some suggestions about renting for both members and renters. One even has some suggested rental contracts.

While there have been very few problems with rentals made thru the DIS, we do suggest due diligence with any rental and that is touched on in the posting rules also.

In addition to posting your own request, you can also respond to "Points for Rent" threads submitted by DVC members offering to make reservations for others. If after reading the suggestions at the top of the board you have any additional questions, feel free to contact any of the moderators for that board. They are listed at the lower right on the Rent/Trade Board.
