How do I rebook Southwest reservations?

I know this has been discussed before. I thought I knew how to do it but it didn't work. I had purchased airline tickets several weeks ago on Southwest's website and noticed that the fares are now lower. When I typed in my confirmation number to apply the purchase price of the current reservations, I got a message that there was no money in that account (or something to that effect). It doesn't make that much of a difference since only one way of the trip is cheaper (the other way is actually more expensive but it balances out to save about 40.00 round trip for our 5 total tickets) but I would like to know how to do this for future travel. Any help would be appreciated.

First you have to cancel the original reservation. I normally call SW and they cancel it for me. Then you book the new fare and type in the old confirmation number to pay for it!

You can cancel your reservations online now, too. When I called SWA they told me about it. I just did it earlier in the week and it worked beautifully!

I know that Southwest is allowing cancellations, refunds, etc. for the month of Sept. because of the tragedy, but it sounds like you folks aren't talking about just the current situation.

Do you mean that you can cancel Promotional and Discount (nonrefundable) fares and rebook at a lower rate with the same travel destinations, dates, times, etc.? Does Southwest actually let you do that? I purchased tickets in August that I could get (even now) for $100 less.

Am I misunderstanding this conversation or is this actually possible?

That's what we did. We had to change our plans and move our trip up. I had $75.00 RT tickets that I cancelled and rebooked at a slightly higher rate (sob). Don't know if it was a glitch or if they allow it at any time, but everything went through with no problem.

You did not misread, you can cancel and rebook right online.

Thank you for the responses. I just rebooked and was able to save $200 on our airfare for November.

The $200 is nonrefundable, of course, and sits in SWA's ticketless travel funds, but we'll be flying again in February, I hope, so we'll be able to use it then.

no, Delta does not work like that, you need to call them.

No, Delta doesn't do this.... & not only do they not do this, if you need to change your flight for any reason, you have to pay a 50.00 fee per person....

If there is a lower price for your current itinerary, you need to call & they will issue a credit for the difference....

Southwest is much more generous allowing you to actually cancel your reservation & rebook it, even for different times... and they don't charge a fee...

we jsut used this feature today ....

instead of flying into tampa ...we are now NON stop into orlando

first we cancelled our original reservation ...which put the "funds" into a holding account related to the confirmation

we then asked to book a flight using ticketless funds.....


when it was all said and done we now have NON stops to orlando one day later at a cheaper rate....

thank you southwest for your policies which puts some control on our hands...
