I have sold many a ticket on craigslist and eBay...and they have all been real...including Super Bowl tix for several thousand dollars.
OP- try to find a seller who bought the tix from ticketmaster if you can. They can now transfer them to you, free of charge, through the ticketmaster site. During the process, the original ticket is voided and you are issued a bread new barcode. I just sold some like this last weekend with no problems.
ETA- even thru stub hub you take a risk. We were at a show with a friend who bought his ticket off there and it wouldn't scan for him to get in nothing stub hub could do but refund his money. He couldn't get in and it was an event he had traveled 6 hrs to.
