How do I keep the birds away????

Anything I can put in my hanging flower baskets (and behind the lights next to my front door - where I now have a nest) that will keep the &%$@#$ birds away? I'm tired of hosing bird poop off my porch!

Get some fake toy snakes and stick them in there, that's what my gran does and she doesn't have bird problems anymore

Or foil. They don't like how it feels and it is too shiney and bother them.

I put balls of aluminum foil in my lettuce box when a bird started building a nest. It worked.

I tried this at my old house and it worked like a charm. However, the birds in my new neighborhood are apparently wise to this trick. They just threw my rubber snakes on the ground and roosted anyway!

Yeah, we put a wooden cobra up where birds had been nesting, thinking that would keep them away. Nope, they built a new nest on top of the cobra head!

Then dh bought two motion sensitive devices that operate on some frequency that is supposed to make a noise to scare away the birds. He discovered tonight that they had built a nest right behind the device! Five little eggs. Just waiting to hatch.

You know all those free Cds and DVDs you get in all the papers; put them to good use and make a mobile out of them with some string then hang it near your baskets. Good fun to do with the kids and it works.

My yard has trees all round and when the birds would fly out of the trees, now and then they would 'poop on take-off' and it would hit my washing which was hung out. ( Not often enough to stop me drying washing outside though). One year I must have had a bird in that tree which had sphincter control issues as I had a higher than average hit rate. I got all the free CDs etc (felt too guilty to dump the things in the trash) and we made a mobile and hung it in the flight path. Worked great then a neighbor approached and said that she thought the lasers lights were cruel!
