we will be staying at the fairfield inn and I got a new laptop months ago so I can go on line to send emails and check my banking. Im new to wireless so Im not sure how to go about it. I have a wifi hooked to my computer at home so I can be on my lap top in my bedroom, but have no clue how to hook up at a motel.
Do I need to hook up my laptop there, or does the wireless just work like mine at home and its automatic? Sounds dumb I know but hey there is some of us old goggies who do not know everything :lmao: can you help an old foggie out?
thanks

I am staying at the Peacock Suites and was going to ask the same question!

Does the motel offer wireless?? If it does not you will not be able to use it unless you can sneak a nearby connection, or you can go to a local Starbucks, Panerra or other place that offers wifi, but not all of them offer it for free.

As to how to connect you will turn on your computer and usually get a prompt that shows available connections, you chose the one that is available. You can not use any connections that have security passwords (unless you are given the password).

I would guess that when you check in you can ask for an user ID and a password. I agree with above poster that you should be shown a list of available wireless networks to connect to when you turn your laptop on.The front desk would be able to tell you which network you are supposed to be connecting to. I am not sure how your PC, if it is a pc and not a mac, is set up, but on most pc's i use you can double click on the monitor looking icon in the tray in the lower right corner(by the clock) and it will bring up a screen that shows your current connection. There should be a button that you can push that says,"view wireless networks", that would be where you pick which network you want to connect to. When you pick the fairfield inn's , you should then be prompted to enter the username/password the front desk gives you. Of course it could be real simple and just is a free hotspot and maybe you wouldn't need the password at all. Wouldn't that be nice...

It depends a little on your operating system.

But usually you can just click on the network (2 little computers) icon in your system tray and there will be an option to connect to a wireless network.

It will show a list of available wireless networks including Fairfields.

You can try this at home... just have it show a list of available networks. You'll see yours and possibly several others.

I stayed at the fairfield a trip or so ago and I don't think it took a user/password.

Thank you all, I did see the two little computers, clicked on it and saw the conections in my neighborhood. mine is locked. so Im hoping its as easy there a the fairfield to :)

Hi. We stayed at the Fairfield on Friday night. It was easy to connect. There are instructions in the room. If I remember correctly, you just go to internet explorer and type in "BAHN" or something similar and then a page comes up where you have to accept the terms and conditions. It was simple so you shouldn't have problems. There is also a computer and printer in the lobby if you need to do something quick like airline check in/printing boarding passes, etc.

The instructions will be in the room. Mozilla works the same as IE, you just let the lappy find the available networks, click on the FFI one, either type in the access code given to you or accept the terms and conditions. If having problems call the front desk and they will walk you thru it.
