hey there,

in 3 weeks i'm going to be staying on international drive with my family. we chose to stay here because we wanted to save money on accomodation and it was a lot cheaper to stay on I drive.

However, the hotel we're staying at doesnt offer a free transport service to disney this time and therefore we are going to have to use public transport (my parents wont hire a car unfortunately as they dont fancy drivin abroad - we are from the UK - and i am too young to drive a hire car :( )

i have no idea about the transport on international drive - all i know is there are lynx buses and the i ride. can i use these to get to disney? does anyone have any idea about how its best to get to disney, and does anyone know which to take?

Hope someone can help,
Beth

yeah, we're gonna use i ride to make our way back and forth up and down international drive - don't think they go to WDW though, which is a shame.

they can get you to sea world and universal though (i think)

Beth

i might email lynx actually - i'm not having much like with their website as i am not familiar with the international drive/disney/orlando area at all :S
well let you know what they say...

Here is the local transit authority's web page. They have maps/schedules.

http://www.golynx.com/

Know that the States has particularly poor public transit. This may be a situation in which it is worth hiring a car service or calling for a cab.

that a shame thats what was suggested to me i just assumed one of them went to disney, oh well, ill just stick to the hotel bus then

i hope you get a solution, there must be one lol

Even though your hotel doesn't have a free shuttle to Disney, there may be a paid shuttle. That would be infinitely less expensive than taxis or a town car. Check in the lobby when you arrive.

It may be too late but I'd look to change to a hotel on Disney property (value resort) or a hotel at one of the DTD hotels.

A rental car is the only effective way to go from an offsite property to Disney. You'll probably be spending more on cabs then you'll be saving by staying on International Drive.

There is a lynx bus by Sea World that goes to the TTC and DTD. You'll have to get to SW and then take Disey transportation to your final destination. You'll probably waste at least an hour. The buses don't run all night. You'll wind up taking a cab to get back to your resort.

Alternatively ask at your hotel. They may be able to offer you a pay shuttle. Such a bus will stop a multiple hotels and may take up to an hour to arrive at Disney.

The fastest way would be to hire a taxi, but that is also the most expensive. One way to reduce the cost is to use the I-Ride to get to the southern most stop, and then taxi from there. The cheapest taxi fare would be to DTD, where you could pick up Disney transport to resorts within walking distance of three parks (not AK). Keep in mind that this will take time - time to take the I-Ride, then the taxi, then the Disney bus, then walking to a park. Also, if you plan on staying until the parks close, I-Ride does not operate at night (I believe the cutoff is around 10pm, but you'd want to check their website for the current schedule), so you would probably have to taxi from the park, or from DTD, back to your hotel.

Another option would be to check with hotels in your immediate vicinity to see if they offer shuttles. Although many hotels on I-Drive offer free shuttles to Universal and Sea World that are for guests only, they typically offer paid shuttles to Disney and sometimes allow people other than hotel guests to purchase the shuttle rides. If you can find one within a short walking distance to your hotel, it would save you a lot of inconvenience. Compare the cost of paying per person round trip for the shuttle to the cost of a round trip taxi though. If they are close to the same cost, the taxi would be the best bet.

yeah, it is a shame - the iride trolley is amazingly cheap. it definitely goes to seaworld and aquatica by the looks of it, and pretty close to universal studios, but no disney.
here's the map:
http://www.iridetrolley.com/map.asp

however, i managed to get this useful info from a lovely "lynx" team member :) the website is: http://www.golynx.com/ by the way.

they have said:

"From International Dr take the Southbound Link 8 to SeaWorld. At SeaWorld, transfer to Link 50 to Disney.
If you look at the map for Link 58 on our website (click the bullet Schedules and Maps, scroll to Link 58, click on map), your hotel is at the intersection of Universal Bv and Point Plaza Ave. I believe that International Dr is the closest bus stop to that location. Now look at Links 8 and 50.
FYI
Link 8 to Link 21 at Sand Lake Rd goes to Universal Studios.
Link 8 and Link 42 travel to Wet n Wild, Prime Outlets and Premium Outlets"

i hope this comes in handy for somebody else too :)

aww thanks for all ur help guys!

i contacted lynx, and they give me some bus numbers so that should come in handy.

would have loved to have stayed at a disney resort, but turned out to be too expensive unfortunately - nearly £3000 ($6000) for the whole holiday (including flights of course). it was just too much for us.

thanks again
Beth :)

What hotel are you staying at? What other hotels are available in your price range? How long are you staying? How are you getting from the airport to your hotel?

I thought the All Stars and POP run $100.00 per night. Am I a little bit misinformed.

The OP is from the UK, the number she quoted included air fare.

I don't know how many rooms they need but staying at a WDW resort will let the family drop the paid transfers in favor of DME. They really need a rental car. My guess is most of the money they're saving will wind up going to shuttle buses and cabs.

My guess is the tour operator found some offsite hotel willing to dump a room for under $50/ night (maybe $25).

actually we're staying at the hampton inn convention center - the number 4 hotel in orlando according to trip advisor. looks very nice, check it out:

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Re...rlando_Convention_Center-Orlando_Florida.html

not a dump at all :) its located on universal blvd - very close to international drive.

can't quite recall what it cost but in total, we paid around £2100 ($4200) for the holiday in total - thats for flights, accomodation, and transfers from the airport to the hotel.

disney resorts are extremely quite expensive from the UK - and we only wanted to spend around $4000. another good thing about staying on international drive is that we are in the middle of everything. we thought i drive was a great location last time we went.

also, what does the abbreviation OP stand for?

Beth

by the way i would also love a rental car, but my parents are refusing to drive in america. think they're just scared. maybe next time we go i'll be able to change their minds

OP stands for Original post (er).

You might send the hotel an email. They may have some kind of shuttle you can pay for. The Lynx bus that stops at Sea World goes to DTD then TTC. I don't know what it will cost to go from the hotel to the stop.

Your location doesn't work that well without a rental car. It's too late but one of the DTD would have been a better choice. Plan on spending some $$$ on cabs.
