I have 440 points but I am constantly borrowed to the max. I would like to feel what it is like to have a few banked points.

If Suze Orman were a DVC member, I would ask her. How do I get out of point debt and stay out? :goodvibes

Buy more points?
Rent some points for one trip?
Take advantage of the 4 for 7 deal & pay cash?
Take a DCL cruise on cash & skip a year at WDW?

We're moving out of Florida to get out of the hole!! :rotfl2:

Gee I wish I had that problem. I would kill for 440 points but probably wouldn't know what to do with them all. I have only had to borrow points once and I only had to borrow 1 point. I just banked 64 points into my next use year. I think you just need to seriously look at your options that the PP so nicely suggested. Also, consider going someplace else for one year and skip WDW. Did I actually say that?

we have 683.. and have maxed out 2008, 2009, and have less than half left in 2010 :rolleyes1:

try staying in a studio once in awhile or only go in value season

I hate to say it but take a year off.:guilty:

Denise in MI

Yep it stinks but for the first time ever, we had to bank points. Guess that is why DVC really changed the point charts, they looked at my account and went "Oh My Cod, Sammie banked points for the first time ever; raise those points".;)

Did not realize you could borrow that far out, the most I have done is about half of the upcoming year, and that freaked me out. :faint:

Now I am banking and its freaking me too. :crazy2:

I may be forced to invite some family:crowded: for a big get together. Naw I ain't that desperate, yet.

Stay offsite for a week. You'll pay less and get bigger accommodations. There are several very nice timeshares in Orlando I can recommend.

Downsize your unit, length of stay, resort, or season. If you always go in October, you can save points by shifting to the last week of September. All the events are still going on including MNSSHP and the opening of F&W. If you must see Christmas decorations, then opt for early December over NYE. If you have to travel for Spring, go in May instead of April and save a bundle.

Pay for some weekend nights and bank the unused points.

Pay for a point transfer infusion. Bank the rest. It's a shorter and cheaper committment than adding on.

I started out with 200 banked points because my first stay was after my next use year began. I've widdled that down a lot because I want to stay longer and longer. Mostly it's because I forked over the points for a grand gathering. But I have an offsite timeshare I love just as much so I can easily sit out an onsite trip for an offsite one.

We have 430 points with another 60 at BLT. Since we're buying BLT after our use year plans are booked, we'll be banking those first 60 to carry over. I'm a hoarder so I'd love to have those 430 points banked one year and then force myself to spend at least 430 every year.

well we have an April UY.. so all of the 2008 points were used for our July & Dec 2008 trips.

And since we're taking family with us for Christmas, 2009 & 2010 points were used for June / December 2009 trip.

So...we had to borrow from 2010 for a trip that is being taken in 2009.
Sounds very strange, but 2010 is NEXT year! :faint:

We have 627 and also are always borrowing! We had a plan to get back out of borrowing last year and did it. Then we booked two rooms on a cruise with points for May so now we had to borrow for our second vacation this yr. Oh, well, eventually we will take a non points vacation and get caught up again like we were last year!

I know just what Suze would say

stop borrowing:rotfl2:

We use our points when we have them and priceline to stay offsite if we want more Orlando than we have DVC points to support a given year.
:cool1:

I've actually become quite fond of staying offsite - and we've had some of the most magical days in recent trips on days when we were not at DVC. Every time we won YOMD we were offsite. :rotfl: For us, DVC has become more about the resort and less about the parks - while the opposite is true about offsite days. We were offsite at Christmas and were in the parks almost all day. We'll be in DVC for Spring Break and I doubt we'll be in the parks more than a few hours each day. We enjoy it both ways.

This year, I've found a 2bedroom house to rent in Vero and so we'll be in Vero two weeks in July. :cool1: I can not wait.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: I know, sometimes don't you get the feeling that DVC has changed the rules just to mess with those of us who finally "got the hang of it"?

My fiance and I only have 160 points. (320 with developer + Kidani for this year) and we are taking two trips this year on just the developer (One 5 night trip and one 7 night trip) and banking all our Kidani points. How in the world are you running out of 400 points? :rotfl2:

It's very easy when you have more than 2 people traveling with you. My Nov trip for nine nights for nine of us is taking up 402 points.

We will be banking for the first time this year, too. DH will be losing his job at some point this year due to the closing of the plant where he works. We have decided to forego any vacations this year to concentrate on paying down bills and growing our savings as much as possible. We have promised our extended family a trip together in late 2010, however, so we won't lose those points.:crowded: The more, the merrier! Now if DH will just find another job between now and then.:scared:

We originally planned to use our 280 BLT points for a trip in November for a week. However, thanks to our unexpected set of developer points (we bought right before they were offered, then got them added), we are taking a week-long trip in May. So now we might take a Sun-Tues (3nt/4day) trip in November for my birthday and bank the rest of the points. I have to admit, I'm a bit giddy at the prospect of banking 175 points into the next year!
