When I was a teen/young adult....I would ride on the front seat of the Texas Cyclone (Astroworld)...and LOVE it!!! I used to giggle and get back in line to do it again. As I've grown older (and had 2 children)...I'm not as thrilled with the thrill rides anymore, but plain scared of them! What happened to me??

I really really WANT to get on the coasters and go upside down, etc. with my 12 year old, but I always get my husband to do it, cause I'm scared.

I don't want to be this way. Is there anyone out there who has been in my place? What did you do to overcome your fears so that you could truly enjoy the rides.

Thanks for your advice!

As an avid coaster freak and die hard, I would say....just do it. If you watch a roller coaster too long, you will often talk yourself out of it. Take a deep breath and go for it.

You can also start riding the smaller coasters to get back into it and work your way up.

I've been where you are at. I spent my summers between Hershey Parka nd Dorney Park with a few others in between when we traveled. There came a time in my life after college and before kids that I really didn't go to amusement parks anymore. When our son was born, we started going to the parks with my sister and her family. I gradually built courage back as my son got older and started to go on rides. (At age 2 1/2 we went on the Sooper Dooper Looper at Hershey Park PA and he loved it! I knew then he had my thrill gene and not DH!) As DS got older and tried the more daring rides, I went with thim. But it doesn't sound like you have the luxury of time as your child is already 12. I say do what the previous poster suggested - just do it without thinking about it! I would start with the Unicorn and the Mummy. Then move on to the Hulk and Dueling Dragons. I can't handle DD every trip and I just chalk that up to age and it stinks! Whenever I ride DD, I feel like my blood pressure drops 40 points. That coaster is wicked and makes me wish I were about 5 years younger (maybe 10)! Like Nike says - JUST DO IT!
Have fun!

that's good advice....i remember when i was like that, in fact still am....usually when i go on a ride for the first time, it does seem scarry....but afterwards, i'd often be waiting in line to go again.....

I am the same way cause I am a chicken when it comes to coasters and in 2005 my father-in-law took us on vaction to Universal and wanted me to go on the mummy and never been on a indoor coaster and it took him to say look I have prostetic legs and I am still going to ride it and made me feel guilty and rode it and now love it and I ride it everytime we go to Universal.
Now the hulk is a diffrent story I rode it once and still trying to get up the courage to ride it agian and the same goes for dueling dragons and just looking at that one terrifies me but may try it in july.:scared1:

I used to be a coaster freak. Loved them. But after all the park accidents the past few years, I've turned into a chicken. I remember in June when that girl got hurt at a non-Orlando park, we were at WDW. I rode Rock N Roller Coaster and just about had a panic attack. And I've loved that ride in the past. Rode it one morning about 8 times in a row (EMH and FPs) on past vacations. Now I'm too scared. :confused3
