How do I Get A Florida State ID Card?

We are moving to Florida for 6 months maybe a little longer, but we will be living in our travel trailer in an RV park. Can I get a Florida State ID card? If so, where do I go to get them?

If you have an out of state license and are only a temporary resident in FL I do think you can have both. When I lived there some friends would use my address to get a FL ID for Disney discounts.

I believe, though am not certain, that if you have a FL license you use that as ID and don't get an additional one.

If you have a Mississippi license, you can have both licenses. Or your Miss. one & a FL ID.

Of course, if a person qualified for the ID card, then he/she would have two items proving that he/she is a Florida resident. He/she could simply take those items to Disney and skip the ID card.

I saw a posting recently that they have tightened up the laws on FL ID's due to national security rules. Disney then changed their rules so that you can use a utility bill or tax bill with a FL address and an out of state ID to get discounts.

This is so true! Things have changed drastically. And not just for FL ID's but Driver's Licenses too! Our local paper is full of complaint letters from people who have had FL DL's for years, and are having a hard time renewing now. Just look at this for married/divorced ladies who have to show a "name trail" as below (and who thinks to bring a marriage certificate to the DMV?:

If you have legally changed your name by marriage or court order, you must submit the original or a certified copy of your marriage certificate or court order. No photocopies will be accepted unless certified by the issuing authority. For multiple name changes, you must show a document trail linking your current name to your chosen proof of identity. Marriage licenses must be from a governmental agency. Church issued licenses cannot be accepted.

Here is a good FL DMV website with a checklist of documents that you can check off what docs you plan on using to see if they will be allowed or what else you will need before you go to the office. And if you don't have exactly the right docs, they will make you make another appointment (and another, and another LOL):

Why wouldn't you think about that, if you've had a name change? I didn't change my name, but if I did, or if DH does in the future (he wants to), of course we would take the legal documentation for legal ID... Strange to think that there are people complaining about it.

As I look at the site it seems they are contradicting themselves a bit.

On one hand it says:

You must also surrender any valid driver license or instruction permit issued by the state of Florida or any other jurisdiction.

but then later says

Citizens with out-of-state licenses can also apply for an ID card in Florida.

which would lead me to think you wouldn't have to surrender it.

I suspect that if you are a temporary resident you will be able to keep your non-FL license and get a FL ID card but that will have to be verified by talking to someone at the DMV.

This is just saying that if you have a Florida license or within a Florida jurisdiction you cannot have both a drivers license and ID.

I had my birth certificate, Medicare card, voter registration, federal retiree ID card and my current driver's license. None of these were enough to identify who I am! I was told I must have my marriage certificate, a 1099, a W-2 and my Social Security card (which I have misplaced.) The Social Security Administration advises never to carry your card with you. I had to go to the Social Security office in Port Orange (20 miles away) to apply for a new card, which I won't receive for at least two weeks. Wish me luck when I go back and try again!

Ladies, you have to explain why your name changed three times from what appears on your birth certificate. I know. I went through this last week.
I understand why this is needed. Our government passed a law for proof of identity because of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. But isn't the government run by a majority of men? Someone needs to explain "equal rights" to them!

My DD renewed hers on her birthday and forgot her birth certificate, so to save her some money they extended it for a week and we went back with all the required documents. I felt sorry for a guy who was in the line next to us. He did not have his birth certificate (born in CA) and was not sure who to contact to get a copy.

I was stationed in NJ for 6 years and they're worse then FL! We had a guy who was on active duty, but his ID card was issued by the Air Guard, this was right before they went to the new ID cards. They told him he wasn't on active duty, his ID card was not good enough, and only those on active duty with the regular forces could use their ID cards as proof of identification. He had his military ID, his orders, his old license, his utility bills to show residency, his civilian police ID (he's a cop), and his social security card. They told him he needed a certified copy of his birth certificate and another picture ID. He came back to base and called the main office for the DMV in Trenton and they said there was nothing wrong with what he'd already brought to the local DMV. He got the name of the person he was talking to and returned to the local DMV. They still wouldn't renew his license! He had to call the office in Trenton from his cell phone and have them explain to the branch supervisor why they needed to follow their own rules.

My husband and I were at FL DMV yesterday to register a car. I have a FL ID, not a license. While we were there I asked her if I could change the address on my ID card because we had recently moved. She said I would need all kinds of paperwork, even though I had the FL ID with me and was sitting in front of her.

She told me however that I could just go online and put in the change of address and they would send me a new one.

So being there in person I couldn't do it, but being anonymous behind a computer screen I can. Go figure.

Me too. They just told me that the Florida drivers lic is not valid outside the State of Florida. Which is fine.
