How do I freeze my soup?

I just made a huge pot of 15-bean soup and there's only 2 of us so I have a lot leftover. I never freeze my leftovers but I don't want this much to go to waste.
I know I can make 2 containers for lunch for the next 2 days and store that in the fridge.
All I have are plastic storage bowls that are kinda cheap and some 5.2 cup Rubbermaid storage bowls. Will the Rubbermaid bowls work and keep well in the freezer?
Thanks!

I freeze soup, sauces, chili, everything! Make sure that you use glass containers (they can have plastic lids, but go with the glass bowl containers.. much easier, and I've had plastic ones break on me), and fill them up only 3/4 way. You can fill them up less, obviously, as well, but 3/4 of the way has always worked best for me.

I freeze soup all the time - love to make a huge pot and get 2 dinners out of it. I swear by the heavy duty freezer Ziploc bags. Place an empty bag in a large bowl to fill, fill 3/4 way and make sure to get the air out of the bag. They can then freeze flat and take up less freezer space. Enjoy your soup!

I also freeze soup in freezer ziploc bags but I double bag because I'm paranoid :thumbsup2

I freeze in plastic containers all the time. I've never had one break on me and I have always frozen soups, chili, lasagna, etc over the last 30 years.

This is exactly what I do as well! I usually do a couple single servings in quart size bags then enough for another dinner and lunch in gallon size bags so that I have a ton of flexibility when I want to reheat it again.

If you already have the rubbermaid containers, I would use that. I've frozen in containers and ziplocks and they both work equally well.

To thaw a ziplock, I stick it in a bowl and put it in the fridge the night before and it's usually good to go.

I also am a fan of ziploc freezer bags...and I double bag just in case. To thaw out, just run a little warm water over the outside of the bag and the soup will pop right out and into your pan for re-heating.

Freezer bags - good idea! But how do I thaw them out?

If you are short on time you can run some hot water over the bag until the bag is no longer frozen to the soup. Once you have done that slide the whole frozen block of soup into a pot and heat on med/low heat until mostly thawed, then turn the heat up to heat the soup through.

Something my BIL does (and I do now as well) is to take a sheet of wax paper and line a bowl with it. Ladle the soup into the wax paper, which will force it down into the bowl. FIll the bowl about halfway, then stick it into the freezer. Wait until it is frozen, and you can remove the wax paper and the frozen soup from the bowl. Wrap up the wax paper, and you have a frozen, single serving of soup.

Rubbermaid makes containers of different qualities, so without knowing which one, I don't know if it'll handle the freezer well.

I freeze soup a lot. I have the Ziplock twist and lock tall round containers (holds about two servings of soup only meal or I can do three servings of soup and .... meals) I cool my soup then put them in the containers and freeze. When we decide to have soup I just take one out and thaw. I've never had any problem with them. Just make sure you leave headroom.

I've used the ziplock bags as well but I prefer the containers.

Am I the only person in here who tosses things into the microwave?

I'm eating some of my 15-bean soup now! I used some bags and some containers.
Thanks for the suggestions...but boy am I going to blow up tomorrow! :scared1:
