How do I claim charitable donation of DVC on my taxes?

We donated a DVC stay to a charity in 2008. Is there a specific way to calculate this? When the organization sent our donation receipt they had contacted Disney and obtained an average rack rate for the accomodations and wrote that amount on the receipt. I do not want to turn this in as I do not believe it is the correct way to claim it.
Has anyone ever claimed a donation before and if so how did you calculate the value?

You can only deduct a time share donation to charity if you are donating the ownership of the timeshare - timeshare stays/use arenot eligible for charitable contribution deduction. I know you also can't deduct time share stays for business purposes (I've looked into that).

We just donated an AKV stay to charity for a school fund raiser, knowing that it was not tax-deductible, so I can understand why you're interested. For us, the benefit to the school (i.e., the amount received by the donation in the auction) was worth it. It's also kind of a first foray into renting points. It was a good experience so far - we even bumped up the winner's reservation room type because when they wanted to go was less than the total points we'd planned to use. It's annoying it's not deductible, but we get warm fuzzies from knowing that the family will have a great trip at a resort they wouldn't have been able to afford otherwise, and that the school will get the money for it!
