Hello,
How do I calculate points needed for a resort @ WDW like the Polynesian or Yacht Club for example. I am not a DVC member and I can't figure out the DVC point calculator since it only gives me a studio for the options. I am interested in renting points but I don't know how to figure the cost with DVC points to see if I have a good rate or not.

Thank You,
Kathy

I don't really think it would be worth it for a renter to use the DVC points at the other Disney resorts. You would pay about what Disney charges or more for the rooms, and it doesn't make sense. I can see if a member had extra points and wanted to try out different resorts, or if it was short notice and you knew all of the DVC resorts were sold out. We've done three nights at the GF in two rooms when we had extra points on a surprise trip one year, but otherwise it's not really point smart. Figuring on the ridiculously low price some people sell their points for $10 or lower, you would get a room at the Poly for around $300 per night, while you could almost get a Grand villa at Okw for $80 more, or a two bedroom at either Okw or BW for $240. A studio at either of the Four Disney DVC resorts could be had for between $80 a night for Okw/ $90 BWV, or 120 for WLV/BCV/BWV preferred view rooms.
At the moderate resorts you would pay around 14 to 18 points a night ($140-$180), more than what Disney would charge you. Just to get off topic for a second, Whenever we do charge for rooms, we do it per night, not per point. It usually comes to a little less than half the price Disney would charge, and no tax. Recently, rented a studio for 130 per night for some golfers at work. They called and were quoted 300 plus tax. They were more than satisfied. Good luck shopping!

The number of points it takes to stay in a non-DVC resort are extremely high in comparison to a DVC resort. For example, a stay peak season for 7 days at the Poly is 353 vs 102 for a studio at BWV, VWL, or BCV, even fewer for OKW.

You can't really compare DVC vs non-DVC at WDW using points. To see if you're getting a good deal on the rental price, you need to know what the rack room rate for the resort is compared to the (price per point X points) needed for reservation.

Hope this helps!
